Meg Cabot

Fast Facts:

  • As a child, Meg enjoyed reading fantasy novels such as the work of Lloyd Alexander and The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper.

  • Meg has a degree in Fine Arts from Indiana University. After college, she moved to New York City with aspirations of becoming an illustrator. Instead, she found a job as an assistant manager at an NYU dormitory and began writing novels during her spare time.

  • Meg has written almost forty books for both young adults and older readers.

  • Early in Meg’s writing career, she wrote under three different names for each of the publishing houses that released her work. Aside from her own name, her other pseudonyms are Patricia Cabot (under which she wrote adult historical romances such as WHERE ROSES GROW WILD, PORTRAIT OF MY HEART, AN IMPROPER PROPOSAL and A LITTLE SCANDAL) and Jenny Carroll (under which she wrote the supernatural teen series, The Mediator and 1-800-WHERE-R-U).

  • Two of Meg’s projects for young adults have been adapted for both the big and the small screens ---  two hit Disney feature films were based on The Princess Diaries and the television series, “Missing,” which airs on Lifetime, is based on 1-800-WHERE-R-U.

  • Meg has tried her hand at writing several different genres for both young adult and older readers: contemporary and historical fiction, contemporary and historical romance, supernatural fiction, chick lit and mystery.

  • Meg’s latest release, QUEEN OF BABBLE, is the first novel of a romantic comedy trilogy for adult readers.

  • Meg still has many of the diaries she kept in high school and uses them as inspiration for her writing.

  • Meg shares the same birth date as Princess Stephanie of Monaco. They were both born on February 1st, but during different years.

  • Meg and her husband divide their time between New York City and Key West. They own a one-eyed cat named Henrietta.
