No; early 40s.

I've recently returned from a trip to northwest Montana. The reasons I went were very similar to the reasons Jennifer went: men, jobs and love. Montana was the perfect remedy. Felt as though the author was writing about my life.

The book's structure is refreshing. Beginning each chapter with an e-mail message does an effective job of setting the tone for the remainder of the chapter. The messages also help create a sense of intrigue, and make a great story in themselves. Makes me see myself in the development of the messages.
Kim Green's syntax and cadence makes it easy to get caught up in the pace of Jennifer's life, her woes and joyful discoveries. The overall tone is lively, and upbeat. The author builds a character with that is immediately charming, obviously bright, and very much her own person. It's something that many women hope to achieve. I think most readers would be able to identify with a number of thoughts and happenings in Jennifer's life.
The author creates a story that a good reminder about what in life is important. And how it's character that counts.
Thanks for the opportunity to preview this book. I've recommended it to a number of friends.

I have read Chick Lit before, though only a handful of titles.

I can relate to the difficulty of clean breakups with boyfriends, the rigmarole involved in asserting chosen female independence, and magnetic, inexplicable love.

I enjoyed the plot devices; they distracted me from the usual downfall of most chick lit --- annoying stream of consciousness. I also enjoyed seeing and feeling Jen fall in love; I believed it. I was glad that Jen was not too self effacing and constantly ridden with guilt about her weight or what she just ate. The downside: the characters and SF/Montana life were predictable, pat, and reeked of cliche; and the sarcasm, Jenisms got annoying sometimes. But all of that was to be expected; this is chick lit, escapist stuff after all. So, overall: a fun fast read that delivers what you expect, a love story with a happy inconclusive ending.

The experience(s) I can relate to in this book
1.) Having problems getting over my Cuban-American ex boyfriend.
2.) Being the only single (no boyfriend or husband) girl in your circle of friends.

I enjoyed the book. It was a bit slow in the beginning, but it picked up half way and became a pretty quick read after that. It was funny, but at times, the plot seemed a bit far-fetched. However, I could definitely relate to this single woman. I too packed up and moved away from home for a career and a life change. I enjoyed the e-mails starting each chapter. It gave the reader a little bit of information about Jen or one of her friends. This novel provides the reader with a resolved ending. I would recommend this book to those who like quick reads, relatable characters, and stories that don't require too much afterthought. Overall, it was a nice distraction and I laughed a lot too.

An experience that I related to was Jen falling for Bruce.
I am in a similar situation where I have fallen for an older, he's 40 and I'm 27, and somewhat unavailable guy. It's also a complicated situation in that we are co-workers. Just like Jen was working with Bruce and wondering if it was a good idea to be involved with someone you're working with. There's just some odd attraction to an older man who has been there, done that sort of thing and just like the experience Jen did have when she and Bruce did hook up. The excitement of knowing that an older, more mature man knows what he wants and knows how to satisfy makes the attraction that much stronger. I had done the same thing as Jen in making a list of pros and cons. I also thought the idea of the "Sea of Lust" was intriguing. I have not hooked up with the man of my desires and I continue to be stuck in that infatuation, and see myself being stuck there until something either occurs or I am totally shut down and forced to give up.

I enjoyed IS THAT A MOOSE IN YOUR POCKET? It was an adventure-filled romantic comedy that had me laughing out loud at times and wanting to cry in desperation at others. Of course, there were parts of it that were a bit far fetched but that just makes for a good plot. There were parts however that are believable and relatable. The driving force of the book is the undeniable attraction between Jen and Bruce. At first Jen doubted it possible but came to find out it was one of the best things to happen to her. I think it goes to show that we should always keep an open mind and an open heart because we never know when or where we may find a true love that evokes so many emotions.
I also like how Jen is portrayed as a strong and independent woman yet has her shortcomings, as we all do. Jen's career is important to her but more importantly are her family and friends. Jen is lucky to have such a great amount of supports. I like how Jen was able to stand up for herself when Bruce asked her to wait for him. Jen was so into Bruce that I thought she would tell him she would wait, but instead she had the courage and strength to not let a man determine her destiny. Fortunately, it all worked out in the end. I think it kind of goes with the saying that if you let something go and it comes back around then it is meant to be.
I believe IS THAT A MOOSE IN YOUR POCKET? is a great Chick Lit book that women, as myself, can relate to and enjoy reading. It was not only entertaining but inspiring as well.

Have you read Chick Lit before?
I love to read a wide variety of books. I enjoy the Book Reporter newsletter and often find myself reading books reviewed on the site. I was intrigued with the new Chick Lit section and had already added this book to my wish list. I often take books like this to work. I work the night shift as a 911 Operator and they keep me amused and alert throughout the night, when the activity is slow.
Are you in your 20s/30s?
I am 45 years old, but the group that I work and socialize with is very diverse. I also enjoy living vicariously through the characters in a book... if only for a few short hours.

I really enjoyed the book. The characters were interesting and developed nicely. The experience I related to the most were Jen's emotions and her behavior when she broke off the relationship with Bruce, even before it began.
I was so excited when I won a copy of the book! Thanks again.

Just finished IS THAT A MOOSE IN YOUR POCKET? and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I am 45 years old, so out of the target audience, but I would recommend it to my friends and possibly my book group --- we read lighter books in the summer, and this would be an interesting discussion. I thought the character development was good and the plot moved along well. The e-mails at the beginning of each chapter were a clever way to catch the reader up.

I am a 36 year old, married, mother of 2 and live in the Midwest. This book managed to slander just about everything that I stand for, or that is important to me, including, marriage, motherhood, conservative values, religious faith, the Midwest, and small town values. It even slammed cowboy boots, pickup trucks and simple food! The last straw was the rude crack about Rush Limbaugh. I managed to finish the book, only so that I could deliver this report. If women in their 20s and 30s are as self-centered, self absorbed, politically correct, and sex-obsessed as the protagonist in this book, the world is doomed! In all seriousness, if this is what is passing for popular literature today, count me out. One dose of Chick Lit was enough for me. Give me Dean Koontz, John Grisham, Dan Brown, or even Nora Roberts.

I enjoyed this read. The story was funny, had a good plot, and we got to meet some very interesting characters. I'd like to see more of Jen and Bruce in Montana, though, along with her group of San Francisco friends. I was sorry that the book ended where it did, without a follow-up back in Montana. I have some friends that are eager to read this one now that I'm finished! Thanks for this opportunity.

Have you read Chick Lit before?
I do have to say that Yes I have read Chick Lit but it was in the disguise of a mystery. The Stephanie Plum series written by Janet Evanovich could fall in this category --- young woman loses blue collar job, goes to work for uncle in the bail bonds and has 2 men in her life. I enjoy the way Stephanie Plum "always gets her man" and her family.
Are you in your 20s/30s?
Actually no, I'm 50 years old.

So far about the only experience in the book that I can relate to is picking my life in a town in which I was comfortable in and moving over 2000 miles away to start a new life.
Tell us your thoughts about the book.
The book started a bit slow but as I read more it became intriguing. Jen Brenner wanted a change in her life and she definitely received that in Montana. She drew on her reporter instincts and got a story while meeting some very interesting men that kept her head spinning. That is the kind of life I would love to experience for once.

Have you read Chick Lit before?
This is the first Chick Lit book I've read. I find it a refreshing change from my normal reading which is mostly mystery/suspense with some nonfiction thrown in.
Are you in your 20s/30s?
I am beyond my 30's, but can identify with many of the experiences (especially related to relationships) in my younger days.

I am really enjoying this book which I find to be very down to earth and real. I can also identify with the sense of humor that Jen possesses. I appreciate the opportunity that you've given me to read this book. I fully intend to go to my library for another Chick Lit book that sounds good --- PUSHING 30 by Whitney Gaskell.
Thanks again for the book.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read IS THAT A MOOSE IN YOUR POCKET? I tried reading BRIDGET JONES' DIARY when it first came out and was bored to tears and never finished it. Decided to give chick lit another try though and was pleasantly surprised that I actually enjoyed this one.
Are you in your 20s/30s?
I am neither in my 20's nor 30's --- I'm a grandmother. A young one, but nonetheless a grandmother! Hope that doesn't disqualify me!

I got a kick out of the main character when she made out her list of the pros and cons of pursuing a relationship with her new love interest. I remember doing that when I was single while trying to decide between two guys I was dating. Can't remember if it helped me chose between the two, but it was fun anyway.
Tell us your thoughts about the book.
As I said I enjoyed the book --- it was a quick read, and lots of fun. And I thought the e-mails at the beginning of each chapter were very clever. Now that I know there are good examples of chick lit out there, I just may try another!

The idea of being single when everyone else has a mate is easy to relate to. After being a single parent for over ten years, it was nice to finally be a couple again.

This is a fun, light read that almost everyone can relate to at some level in some way.

Just like Jen the protagonist did, I fell for a guy who is completely different than anyone I'd ever dated before. It's a big adjustment and my life has never been the same since!

I really liked IS THAT A MOOSE IN YOUR POCKET? It was funny and light but it also brought tears to my eyes at one point. Jen isn't perfect, she makes some wrong choices & messes things up but she's also strong and brave and she is remarkably just like every single (as in unattached) woman I know! I cheered for her in the end. Many of the other characters were well drawn and there a few I'd like to see in more prominent rolls next time... Yes, I'm hoping for a sequel!
