Through the years, it has been GONE WITH THE WIND, America's version of WAR AND PEACE. Kim Kovacs Connie Willis: THE DOOMSDAY BOOK. While billed as a science fiction/time travel book, this novel typically won't appeal to those who normally read science fiction. It's really more of a historical novel, focusing on events and people during the Black Plague. It's character-driven, not event-driven, and quite compelling as a result. Marlyn E. Myers CAGE OF STARS by Jacquelyn Mitchard Kimberly Wlliott THE ALL-SOUL'S FAIRE by Kristy Tallman Becky Brown Not just a book, but the whole series of FBI thrillers by Catherine Coulter. These books keep me interested and I could read them in one sitting, if I did not work. I can hardly wait for the next one to hit the presses!!! It was a beautiful story told from an original point of view. It is a book that has stayed with me in many ways. Adeline Marchand A FINE BALANCE by Rohinton Mistry. A book that stays with you months after the final page is read. A moving story of tenacity that is unmatched in any book before or since. It has also made me quite critical of anything I read, as I am always comparing authors to Mr. Mistry. This is not a "fluff" book; it's disturbing and uplifting at the same time. It will change the way you see the world forever. John True Black Hawk Down Suzanne in Ohio This past weekend I read Barbara Delinsky's new book FAMILY TREE. You can pick up any of her books and have a good read. Her latest is by far one of the best books I've read. An intiguing story with wonderful characters. Moehringer Donna Hall TRAVELER by Ron McLarty Vickie Malone The Time Traveler's Wife Steven Schwindt The Kite Runner Genie My favorite book, TO KILL A MOCKINGBRID, is the one I recommend to anyone who has not read it. trish I recommend the most recent book I have read that is really good. I only tell someone who I think would enjoy that particular book. I don't think I should tie up people's time with a book that they might not be interested in just because I liked it. I read lots of different kinds of books, and nobody I know is interested on all the same topics I am. But most frequently I recommend a book on social change or analysis that has come out recently because they might not have had a chance to hear about it yet; and only if it is well-written. G. Walker Year of Wonders Scott TIME AND AGAIN by Jack Finney Michelle THE PURSUIT OF ALICE THRIFT and MY LATEST GRIEVANCE, both by Elinor Lipman Janice H. Elizabeth Meagher FEAST OF LOVE by Charles Baxter Susan BROKEN FOR YOU by Stephanie Kallos, is my new favorite novel and, after discovering it through my book group, I'm now "preaching the gospel" and sharing it with everyone I know who appreciates good literature. It's stunningly written, with well-fleshed out characters and a plot line that, although you intuit how it's going to come out, has you delighted at how it happens. I see she has a new novel coming out December 2007 - I'm thinking of pre-ordering! Susan Levine The book I've recommended most over the years is FOREVER by Pete Hamill. Among the many books I devour, I loved this most because so much of it dealt with the history of New York. I also recommended THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME when I finished reading that and LITTLE CHILDREN by Tom Perrotta when I finished that. One that I couldn't stop raving about (to this day) is RUNNING WITH SCISSORS, but it depends on who I'm talking to. My recommendations vary depending on the person's individual tastes. Vickie Malone AFTER ALL THESE YEARS by Susan Isaacs Kristi THE SPARROW by Mary Doria Russell Carolyn The Kite Runner Becky THE MEMORY KEEPER'S DAUGHTER by Kim Edwards Lynn My most recent you-have-to-read is Nancy Pickard's THE VIRGIN OF THE SMALL PLAINS. Krys Glavin THE CALIPH'S HOUSE: A YEAR IN CASABLANCA by Tahir Shah

Lani Strom Half of a Yellow Sun Fran Any books I' ve read by Jodi Picoult. Probably the most popular I've tended to recommend is PLAIN TRUTH.
