This is a sad story of a family during the Depression. Although threatening to turn into a V.C. Andrews-like novel, it redeems itself with the strong bond between the father and children. If you think you have it hard or are looking for inspiration in a shameless new voice, than read this autobiography from a girl who lived most of her life on the way outside, trying to get on the inside. A truly inspiring story for anyone who still believes that anything can happen in America if you want it badly enough. Read it! You won't be disappointed! I had listened to ODD THOMAS and grew to love the characters, I couldn't get the tape so I started the book and the action just sucked me in like a vortex down the drain. I did not expect to like this book but found I couldn't put it down. What a nice surprise! Sherry Brown All of James Patterson's books have kept me reading all night until the book is finished. The first book I read in a matter of days. The second book took me about 2 weeks. I just couldn't seem to finish it. Linda Smith A Thousand Splendid Suns Kathy Boucher A MAN IN FULL by Tom Wolfe. I just could not put it down. It is so full of wonderful characters, whom you really feel you know! From the pompous Charlie Croker to poor Conrad, they truly come alive, as does the city of Atlanta and the racial problems. My only disappointment was the ending, which didn't seem to fit the rest of the novel. Even tho it is a huge book (742 pages), it is well worth the read!!
