Oops, I forgot Rutherfurd's SARUM --- hardcover edtion: 897 pages. Barbara Peters Probably SIGN-TALKER:The Adventures of George Drouillard on the Lewis and Clark Expedition Sandi Lewis Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series most recently.
Another long but extremely good book was SARUM by Edward Rutherfurd.
I love long books! Loretta Sanford GONE WITH THE WIND, or maybe THE HISTORIAN. I haven't a clue. Susan 600 pages Marta Morrison It was either GONE WITH THE WIND or SWAN SONG. Cathy Doyle NOBEL HOUSE or THE STAND --- I'm sure there are others, but these are the two that stand out. Melody The longest book I've read is Margaret George's book: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF HENRY VIII: WITH NOTES BY HIS FOOL, WILL SOMERS
I buy/read books based on the author if I'm familiar with him/her and the content of the book. The length is never a consideration for me. Tammy Mastin Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Louis A. Willis War and Peace Marcia Vola Gone With the Wind Renee A SUITABLE BOY by Vikram Seth. Shellie ANNA KARENINA by Leo Tolstoy Mary FIVE SMOOTH STONES (Ann Fairbairn) or GONE WITH THE WIND Michelle Miller I have read many long books. Probably the longest were Ken Follett's PILLARS OF THE EARTH, Edward Rutherfurd's LONDON, Marion Zimmer Bradley's MISTS OF AVALON, and I had started reading Edward Rutherfurd's SARUM (which is 900 pages), but had to take a break because I'm in the middle of fall semester and am writing a lot of papers. Linda Estrin Isaac Bashevis Singer's SHADOWS ON THE HUDSON A treasure on every page. Laurie Weatherlow I can think of three:
THE HISTORIAN THE GLASS BOOKS OF THE DREAM EATERS LES MISÉRABLES Edith THE FIERY CROSS by Diana Gabaldon, 1443 pages Noreen Brown I think it might have been a Harry Potter book. I don't remember how many pages HAWAII had. Kathryn Andrews All of James A. Michener's and James Clavell's books; they were not known for brevity. beachgrammy Oh my gosh, I don't remember. I've never kept track. I love long books when they're good and I'm always sad when they're finished. I was a huge fan of Michener, and he had many long books. Ditto with Thomas Wolfe. Bob Hartzo FREEDOM by William Safire Patty Blackwell I'm not sure it's longest I ever read, but HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE was pretty long and worth reading every word. Donna WAR AND PEACE by Tolstoy Linda Gone with the Wind Susan C. Dawson THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, unabridged English language version, approximately 1300 pages. Lee Ever? I don't know, but recently our club picked THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO and last year it was JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORRELL, which were over 1,000 pages. Valerie The longest book I have ever read was EAST by Edith Pattou. (extraordinary book, if you love fairy tales) Andrea I actually did a little research, as I have read a few longer novels. There are three in close contention. The first of which is Margaret Mitchell's GONE WITH THE WIND at 1024 pages. The second is Gregory David Roberts "Shantaram" at 944 pages. The third is John Jakes's HOMELAND at 785 pages. There are a few more in the 600 to 700 range as well, but the above mentioned are most memorable. Donna Randall GONE WITH THE WIND and its sequel, SCARLETT. F Tessa Bartels I'm not sure if it's the longest, but it sure felt like it was... A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES Linda A Slott I'm pretty sure it was THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH by Ken Follett Valerie Pratt THE WAY THE CROW FLIES --- 810 pages Barbara I'm not certain. I am of fan of nineteenth- century British as well as Russian novels, which tend to be long. I really don't think about books in terms of length, that is something my high school English students did. To me, a book, is a book, is a book. Dianne ATLAS SHRUGGED by Ayn Rand Michael Burns THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO Paperback 1312 pages Danielle Atlas Shrugged Elle GONE WITH THE WIND (Mitchell) @ 1048 pages CENTENNIAL (Michner) @ 1038 pages THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX (Rowling) 896 pages and the rest of the Harry Potter series THE HISTORIAN (Kostova) @ 688 pages

Reader4Life The longest book that I can remember reading recently was VIRGIN EARTH by Philippa Gregory. It was 729 pages and a sequel to a 600-page book, EARTHLY JOYS. Helen WAR AND PEACE by Leo Tolstoy Barbara Most Michener books Suzanne Novoselac WAR AND PEACE (unabridged). Carol Define long book...how many pages? Jane Gone With The Wind Jennifer Kirkman About 1000 pages. Lesley TEXAS by James Michener was probably the longest and took me the longest to complete. However, I recently re-read Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series because I relish them so. It took me about 4 months to complete them, but I'm feeling the pull to read them again soon. Donald DeMore The full-length THE STAND by Stephen King. Jaap Stienstra I'm not sure but maybe Robert Littel's THE COMPANY Kathryn Andrews My latest "long" book was SHANTARAM, and it was worth the read! Carol A. Pam Dean Atlas Shrugged Ruth Haris Doyal Not sure, possibly GONE WITH THE WIND, a Russian novel or maybe a Dickens novel. The length of a good story isn't pertinent. Marcia Cook Gone With The Wind Janice McElroy Tom Clancy's RAINBOW SIX. Linda Scott Elizabeth George's large print edition of PAYMENT IN BLOOD, which was over 1000 pages. Mary Griffin ANNA KARENINA by Tolstoy Cathy Matkovic The Lord of the Rings Lisa Off the top of my head, the longest would be A STORM OF SWORDS by George R. R. Martin.
