Helene Harris PROFILES IN COURAGE by JFK Jan Stephens Team of Rivals Sonia Zaffiris THE CLINTON WARS by Sidney Blumenthal and AND THE HORSE HE RODE IN ON by James Carville Mary Champagne ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward most influenced me. I was young and very naive about politics, as perhaps many Americans were, and the "dirty tricks," intrigue and deceptions were all very "eye opening." It was a politically historic time to live and this book kind of defined the era for me. Ray Palen ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein Liz Picone A PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES by Howard Zinn Miriam A MATTER OF CHARACTER: Inside the White House of George W. Bush by Ronald Kessler Barbara Broberg HARRY S. TRUMAN by Robert Ferrell Ellen I try NOT to read about politics! Most of my reading is fiction for enjoyment, relaxation, and escape. Having said that, I have read books like FAST FOOD NATION, after which I gave up red meat for two years and now only eat certain cuts, never ground beef anymore. Lori Schultz FRANKLIN and WINSTON by Jon Meacham
An amazing look at the intense and complicated pubic and private relationship between these two before and during World War II. Donnell Rosenberg WHEN CHARACTER WAS KING: A Story of Ronald Reagan by Peggy Noonan Linda M. Williams ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein Michael M. Dewey ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN by Bob Woodward
WORSE THAN WATERGATE by John W. Dean Angie CAPTAINS AND THE KINGS by Taylor Caldwell made me very cynical about politics and the way the world is run. Kellie LiIVING HISTORY by Hillary Clinton Not because I liked it, but because it was the most fake made-up book of trash a first lady could have written. Elizabeth Atlas Shrugged Lee Primary Colors Marion Miller THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST, ELEANOR AND FRANKLIN, and PLAIN SPEAKING Norene Wittlin PROFILES IN COURAGE by JFK Fran Keneston All the President's Men Kathy Vieira Although I'm not big on political books, I would have to say PRIMARY COLORS was probably the most memorable for me. Pat Shearing EDUCATION OF A PUBLIC MAN, by Hubert H. Humphrey
Marvelous book and details his humble beginnings. Lindy I have never read one. Susan PROFILES IN COURAGE by President, John F. Kennedy Charlene CAPITOL HILL IN BLACK AND WHITE
Also THE LAST BLACK EMPEROR (a story about Marion Barry) Cynthia It is the recent books that are most memorable --- just finished reading BLACKWATER by Jeremy Scahill, which details much much more about the current administration than just the mercenary group. Wow...just wow. Diane ATLAS SHRUGGED by Ayn Rand Patricia THE KITE RUNNER, A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS.... and ADVISE AND CONSENT and A SHADE OF DIFFERENCE from long, long ago! Connie Williamson All the President's Men Elinor Nuxoll COMMON SENSE GOVERNMENT: Works Better And Costs Less by Vice-President Al Gore Nancy Fein ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein Manish Patwari THE ARROGANCE OF POWER by William Fulbright Mike Ferrin Profiles in Courage Lois CONSERVATIVES WITHOUT CONSCIENCE by John Dean. Scary stuff, I guess, unless you're a conservative. :) Jane Haase Johnny, We Hardly Knew You The Best and The Brightest Edward Garea PERPETUAL WAR FOR PERPETUAL PEACE by Gore Vidal Tamara Lemon Tree Linda M. Johnson All the President's Men Max Refah THE NIGHTMARE ON 6TH STREET: A Memoir of Politics, Corruption and Murder Patricia Miller OUR ENDANGERED VALUES: America's Moral Crisis by Jimmy Carter Jennie Femec All the President's Men Don de Blasio All The President's Men Catherine Lee FEAR AND LOATHING: ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL by Hunter S. Thompson Marjorie Clark Haven't read any political books this year. F Tessa Bartels Alexis de Tocqueville's DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA Linda K. Jitmoud When I was in college, I read THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST by David Halberstam. It's a little long (about 800 pages) but it provides a fascinating look into the events leading up to the Vietnam War. Shannon Leonetti Founding Fathers Lou I'm not sure this counts as a political book but the one I enjoyed the most was Barbara Bush's memoirs. Marianne Bach DREAMS OF MY FATHER by Barack Obama |
