2009 Children's Choice Book Award Winners
The Children's Book Council announced the winners of the second annual Children's Choice Book Awards during a gala held in New York on May 12, 2009, as part of Children's Book Week. Recipients of the award were selected by over 220,000 online votes by kids across the country through the website www.BookWeekOnline.com.
Now in its second year, the Children's Choice Book Awards Program was founded as a way to provide young readersthe opportunity to voice their opinions about the books being written for them, as well as to help create a reading list that will help motivate children to read more, and to cultivate a love of reading.
The 2009 Children’s Choice Book Award winners are:
Kindergarten to Second Grade Book of the Year
THE PIGEON WANTS A PUPPY! written and illustrated by Mo Willems (Hyperion Books for Children/Disney Book Group)
Third Grade to Fourth Grade Book of the Year
SPOOKY CEMETERIES by Dinah Williams (Bearport Publishing)
Fifth Grade to Sixth Grade Book of the Year
THIRTEEN by Lauren Myracle (Dutton/Penguin Young Readers Group)
Teen Choice Book of the Year
BREAKING DAWN by Stephenie Meyer (Little, Brown and Company)
Author of the Year
Stephenie Meyer, for BREAKING DAWN (Little, Brown and Company)
Illustrator of the Year
Jon J Muth, for ZEN TIES (Scholastic Press)

2008 Children's Choice Book Awards Winners
On May 13th, 2008, the Children's Book Council (CBC) announced the winners of the newly launched Children's Choice Book Awards. The three titles and two authors honored in each of the five categories were selected from finalists compiled from bestseller lists, including those by BookScan, The New York Times and USA Today. Children across the country then cast nearly 55,000 votes at book stores, school libraries and at BookWeekOnline.com. The awards were presented at a gala held in New York City as part of this year's Children's Book Week, held from May 12-18.
