2008 Awards

2008 Golden Kite Award Winners

The Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) recently announced the winners of the 2008 Golden Kite Awards. Given annually since 1973, the Award recognizes excellence in children's literature in the four categories of fiction, nonfiction, picture book text, and picture book illustration, and presents to each a cash prize of $2,500. In addition to the award winners, four honor book recipients are also named by a panel of judges made up of children's book writers and illustrators.

The Golden Kite Awards will be presented at a luncheon to be held during the SCBWI's 37th Annual Conference, which takes place in Los Angeles on August 1-4. Previous winners and recipients include Christopher Paul Curtis, Walter Dean Myers, Eve Bunting, Donna Jo Napoli, Nancy Farmer and Robert Sabuda.

HOME OF THE BRAVE by Katherine Applegate (Feiwel and Friends)

Nonfiction
MUCKRAKERS by Ann Bausum (National Geographic Society)

Picture Book Text
PIERRE IN LOVE by Sara Pennypacker, illustrated by Petra Mathers (Orchard Books)

Picture Book Illustration
LITTLE NIGHT illustrated and written by Yuyi Morales (Roaring Brook Press)


The Golden Kite Honor Recipients are:
