On December 1, 2006, at a ceremony held at the Portland Art Museum, the winners of the 20th Annual Oregon Book Awards were announced. The Award, founded in 1987 by the Literary Arts --- a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the importance of language and literacy --- honors the accomplishments of Oregon writers in eight categories, along with three special prizes. The winners are chosen by out-of-state judges, based solely upon literary merit.
