Jesse from Lake Hiawatha, NJ: Is there any way to research my husband's great-great grandmother, a full blood Shoshone? We don't know very much except her name and date of death.

Margaret Coel: Searching genealogical records is something that I have left to my relatives, who tell me they have a fair amount of success on the internet, just by plugging in the name of the ancestor they’re looking for. I believe the Mormon genealogical records are now available on the internet. The government did collect census records of Indian people in the late 1800s, which could be helpful. I suggest that you go to one of the genealogical research centers that are found in many major libraries for help in tapping into relevant government records. Good luck.
