Our March Suspense/Thriller Author Is....And An Author Who Had a Dream....
http://www.michaelleahey.com
This week we announce our March Suspense/Thriller Author Spotlight writer with a drumbeat, or should I say a tap tap tap of the mouse. It's Jeffery Deaver, who most recently authored THE STONE MONKEY (now in paperback), and whose latest, THE VANISHED MAN, arrives in stores on March 11th.

From your mail we know that many of you love Deaver's work so we will be exploring his new title and backlist with you in the weeks to come. For those of you who do not know his character Lincoln Rhyme, it's time to get to know him. This week we are looking for 20 readers who would like to read advance reading copies of THE VANISHED MAN and commenting about it. Interested? Then please drop me email at Carol@Bookreporter.com by Friday, February 7th. Please include your name and snail mail (street) address. See our link later in this newsletter for more about the book.

A personal note this week...Over the past seven years I have had a chance to meet many authors, some of whom became friends. But there was one author who actually was a friend first. Michael I. Leahey and I went to college at Fordham together. From the day I met him, I knew Michael wanted to be a writer. He wrote stories and poems, and edited the college's literary magazine. About two years ago the Fordham alumni magazine ran a story about Michael's debut novel BROKEN MACHINES. I asked his publisher for a copy, read it and called him to tell him how much I enjoyed it. Our Senior Writer loved it as much as I did when we reviewed it here at Bookreporter.com. His second book in the series, THE PALE GREEN HORSE, came out last April, and once again we covered it. We both saw Leahey as an author with a future.

Over the past two years we built a website for him --- MichaelLeahey.com. Last Friday he called to tell me he wanted to send his latest manuscript --- for the third title in the series --- my way. It was finally ready, he was looking for a new agent, and wanted to know what I thought of it, as he was ready to pitch it. It arrived Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday night I was into the story, already on page 80. I fell asleep thinking I needed to send him an email to tell him how much I was enjoying it. Thursday morning came and went with my reading a few more pages before I drove to New York to work. That afternoon a call came from an old college friend, telling me that Michael died of a massive coronary Thursday morning. I so now regret not having sent that mail.

Michael always wanted to be a bestselling author. It was his lifelong dream. I am going to take my time reading the rest of that manuscript. I am glad I have his books up on my bookshelves, and more than that I am happy we were able to share his work with you here at Bookreporter.com. Take a look at Michael Leahey, and his work, by clicking on this link below.

And now onto a week of great reading...
