Two Memoirs Worth Noting

The snow in New York last Monday confirmed to me that the weather gods did not get the "it's spring" memo. Luckily this week we had a lot of great books to chase the weather funk away --- and we kept adding reviews and interviews right till the moment we hit send on this newsletter!

For all of you who have told us that you love hearing authors talk about their work, we have a real treat for you this week --- authors talking to authors about their work! First up, Lisa Scottoline interviews our Suspense/Thriller author of the month, William Lashner. You will enjoy reading their conversation about writing books set in Philly and femme fatales. Curious? Keep reading.

Next up we have Jeffery Deaver and John Gilstrap talking about the writing suspense/thrillers and crafting work in this genre. Ever wanted to know the differences between mysteries and suspense/thrillers? Both Deaver and Gilstrap lend their perspectives here and you will enjoy their replies.

This week I have been reading two books that I have found myself getting lost in. Both are candid memoirs. The first is LEAP OF FAITH by Queen Noor. As we in America watch the events in Iraq and the Middle East as outsiders to this world, it's very interesting to read her thoughts as she has walked and lived in both cultures. Raised and educated in the United States, she moved to the Middle East where she met and married King Hussein of Jordan. While not a political book, Queen Noor lends interesting her own perspective on Middle Eastern/U.S. relations. She clearly feels that we in this country do not understand the Arab world, so reading about it through her lens has been educational as she delivers her point of view.

The second book is I AM THE CENTRAL PARK JOGGER by Trisha Meili. Fourteen years ago the brutal rape and assault of a woman in Central Park stirred the city. Surprisingly, the woman's identity was not revealed for all these years. Now she has come forth with the story of the attack (which she does not remember) and her steps to recovery and the life she has today. For all of us who walk through life taking it for granted, reading a book like this reminds us of how fragile it really is. This book is extremely uplifting and inspiring.

LOTS to enjoy this week...so enjoy!
