| Books for Dad....and Everyone Else |

| Happy Father's Day to all the dads in our audience! For all of you who are reading this and realizing that you do not have a present for dear old dad, please see our feature below for some great book gift ideas. One title you may want to consider is TEAMMATES by David Halberstam. See the review from Ron Kaplan (our resident baseball books guru) under Reviews this week.
As you all know Harry Potter madness is upon us again. If you have not yet pre-ordered your copy of Harry's latest adventures, may we suggest you click on the above link to ensure you are reading as soon as is available next Saturday? With 896 pages think how many hours you can entertain the kids this summer by buying them each a copy! We are running a poll on our Kidsreads.com website asking children how long they think it will take them to read the book. You may want to take a peek at their replies. It may influence your buying decision.
As I was writing this letter word came in from Oprah that she will be announcing her new book club selection next Wednesday. Previously we had heard that she was going to focus on "Travelling with the Classics." Now it appears she will be looking at books that have "stood the test of time." Well, aren't we just timely with our Question of the Week this week asking, "What book do you think is destined to be a classic?" Which are the titles YOU think will stand the test of time. Maybe I should send your replies on to her!
The response to our request for readers for Jonathan Hull's THE DISTANCE FROM NORMANDY (due in stores in early September) was overwhelming. We love that you are excited about this book. We will select readers early next week. Please note that due to your excitement we are planning to get an excerpt of this book up as soon as we can. There also was a huge response to the Tess Gerritsen advance reading copy request. Winners will be announced next week.
This week in anticipation of the release of THE KILLING HOUR by Lisa Gardner (due out July 15th), I read her earlier book THE NEXT ACCIDENT, which introduces many of the characters. Let me clarify here that it is not necessary to read this first. In fact, I read an advance copy of THE KILLING HOUR first and still enjoyed it. But for new Gardner fans that have been enjoying her excerpts on our Suspense/Thriller feature, you may want to read it as it will give you even more background on the characters.
A reminder to all that our Best of Summer Contest is open until July 11th. It's a great chance to win the hardcover or paperback titles on our list, and a LightWedge reading light! See details by clicking on the link below. Also, our contest to win the complete work of William Lashner can be found with our Suspense/Thriller feature.
And of course, you all are included in our Monthly Contest, which this month includes LIVING HISTORY by Hillary Rodham Clinton, THE LAKE HOUSE by James Patterson, DEAD RINGER by Lisa Scottoline, SUSHI FOR BEGINNERS by Marian Keyes and DRY: A Memoir by Augusten Burroughs just for being subscribers to this newsletter. Know someone who would love to get this newsletter? Forward it on to them.
Have a great weekend whether you are firing up the Bar-B-Que or swinging away in a hammock.
