Last night my older son and I went to see Joseph Finder talk about COMPANY MAN at an event in New York. Parents have different ways of benchmarking their children's growth. For me, a big milestone is Greg reading many of the same books I am, and enjoying them. He read an advance reading copy of COMPANY MAN a while ago and thought it was pretty impressive to get a chance to meet the author. He raced for the bus this morning wearing a Company Man baseball cap that he got at the reading and felt very very cool. I love he was not flogging a sports team, but rather a book!
Often people pass me books in manuscript and say, "Read this, I think you will love it." For the record, an average hardcover book has about 500 pages. I always hope the pages are numbered as I inevitably will get up at least once while reading and scatter the sheets around me. THE ICON by Neil Olson was sent to me in manuscript by not just one, but two people, last fall with a "read this" note on it. Then I got a very early advanced reading copy as well. I was intrigued by his writing and can see why people are excited about this one. Thus I am pleased to share that Olson is our new Debut Suspense/Thriller author this week. The one liner about it --- A religious icon, thought to have been destroyed during World War II, reappears in contemporary New York in this debut thriller that blends faith, art, history and suspense. Last summer I read SEE JANE DIE by Erica Spindler. I was floating in the pool most of the time while I was reading it and it felt way way too real as it had to do with a woman who had nearly been drowned and a revengeful killer. Reading Spindler I realized that this was an author we wanted to share with you for Suspense/Thriller Author Spotlight. This week we got a practice run at summer in the New York metro area. We also learned just how hot our office can get without air conditioning!
