Last night my older son and I went to see Joseph Finder talk about COMPANY MAN at an event in New York. Parents have different ways of benchmarking their children's growth. For me, a big milestone is Greg reading many of the same books I am, and enjoying them. He read an advance reading copy of COMPANY MAN a while ago and thought it was pretty impressive to get a chance to meet the author. He raced for the bus this morning wearing a Company Man baseball cap that he got at the reading and felt very very cool. I love he was not flogging a sports team, but rather a book!

Often people pass me books in manuscript and say, "Read this, I think you will love it." For the record, an average hardcover book has about 500 pages. I always hope the pages are numbered as I inevitably will get up at least once while reading and scatter the sheets around me. THE ICON by Neil Olson was sent to me in manuscript by not just one, but two people, last fall with a "read this" note on it. Then I got a very early advanced reading copy as well. I was intrigued by his writing and can see why people are excited about this one. Thus I am pleased to share that Olson is our new Debut Suspense/Thriller author this week. The one liner about it --- A religious icon, thought to have been destroyed during World War II, reappears in contemporary New York in this debut thriller that blends faith, art, history and suspense. See more details about how you can be an advance reader of THE ICON, which will be in stores May 3rd, below.

Last summer I read SEE JANE DIE by Erica Spindler. I was floating in the pool most of the time while I was reading it and it felt way way too real as it had to do with a woman who had nearly been drowned and a revengeful killer. Reading Spindler I realized that this was an author we wanted to share with you for Suspense/Thriller Author Spotlight. If you like psychological thrillers, you will want to explore her new one with us, KILLER TAKES ALL, which will be in stores May 31st. We have 20 advance reading copies. See more details below.

This week we got a practice run at summer in the New York metro area. We also learned just how hot our office can get without air conditioning! Since I am reading ahead for summer, I was in the right mood to think sand and sun. Heads up and mark your calendars. We are going to kick off a 16-week summer celebration on May 20th that you are going to want to read along with. No more details now, but trust we think you are going to LOVE this one.

Have a great week. Read on.

Bookreporter.com Talks to: Joseph Finder, Author of COMPANY MAN

http://bookreporter.pmail.biz/pmailweb/ct?id=90+0+89+1+22887

Bookreporter.com's Suspense/Thriller Author Spotlight Team (Carol Fitzgerald, Joe Hartlaub and Wiley Saichek) interviewed Joseph Finder, author of COMPANY MAN. Finder talks about his inspiration for his latest thriller, why he especially enjoyed writing the character of Detective Audrey Rhimes --- his female protagonist --- and the similarities and differences between this novel and his previous bestseller, PARANOIA.

COMPANY MAN by Joseph Finder (Thriller)
Reviewed by Joe Hartlaub
Nick Conover, CEO of a major corporation, has had to preside over a massive layoff of workers in his company. When a faceless stalker menaces his family, Conover decides to take matters into his own hands. The result? His actions now are being investigated by Audrey Rhimes, a homicide detective with a strong sense of morality who is steadfastly determined to do the right thing.

Debut Suspense/Thriller Author Spotlight: Neil Olson, Author of THE ICON

http://bookreporter.pmail.biz/pmailweb/ct?id=92+0+91+1+22887

In THE ICON by Neil Olson, which is on sale May 3rd, Matthew Spear, a young Greek-American curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, meets the lovely Ana Kessler, a sometime art dealer who has inherited an impressive collection from her mysterious grandfather. Matthew soon discovers that the jewel of the old man's cache is none other than the Holy Mother of Katarini -- a sacred icon long thought destroyed in a fire. But while Matthew recognizes the icon's value as a work of art -- and a star in his crown if he can add it to the museum's collection -- he soon discovers that it carries a far greater significance to numerous people, including his own grandfather and godfather.

We have 10 advanced reading copies of THE ICON by Neil Olson to give away to readers who would like to preview the book and comment about it. A description can be found by clicking the link below. As a former member of the Dallas police force, Stacy was exposed to more than her share of the horrors of crime. Moving to New Orleans was her attempt to pursue a quieter life. But her friend's murder plunges her back into the role that she fled.

She finds White Rabbit is more than a game. It's more real than life and death. And anyone can die before the final moment when the game is over...and the killer takes all.

THE YANKEES AND RED SOX: A Rivalry for the Ages

    http://bookreporter.pmail.biz/pmailweb/ct?id=104+0+103+1+22887

The rivalry between New York and Boston leaves fans with more than just breathtaking baseball. Each municipality sees itself as superior. New Englanders have had the sympathy of the baseball community and the larger world for their decades of futility on the field. But no longer can the Red Sox play that role of the poor, pitiful loser, thanks to their 2004 World Championship that finally ended the "curse of the Bambino." Bookreporter.com's contributing writer Ron Kaplan takes a look at more than a dozen books that focus on the Sox, the Yankees, or a combination of the two.
