Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Holly Peterson's THE MANNY.

What authors do you read?
I read a variety of writers, often those of mystery and historical fiction, but never science fiction! I like Philippa Gregory, Peter Ho Davies, Hisham Matar, Val McDermid, Joe Hill, Anita Diamant, and Marilynne Robinson, and I am currently reading Khaled Hosseini’s second novel. I also love beach reads!
What did you think of THE MANNY?
It was a fun read, and would be an excellent beach book. I enjoyed the humor and the “insight” into the rich crowd with whom Jamie deals.
Would you ever read a future book by Holly Peterson?
Yes, I would. I was pleased to see some positive reviews on it.

What authors do you read?
Thanks for the opportunity to read THE MANNY by Holly Peterson.
What I normally and extensively read are mystery writers like Lisa Scottoline, Sue Grafton, Michael Connelly, Aaron Elkins, Stephen White, Rochelle Krich, and Jonathan and Faye Kellerman. I also like the more cozy and/or chick lit mysteries by Janet Evanovich, Susan Kandel, Patricia Smiley, Lynn Bulock, Lilian Jackson Braun, Earlene Fowler and Laura Childs, as well as [literary] fiction by others like John Irving, Maeve Binchy and Diane Setterfield.
What did you think of THE MANNY?
I enjoyed THE MANNY, although I thought it was a bit predictable. Once the "spoiled brat" of a husband is introduced and the reader gets a glimpse of the "hunk" of a manny, we know he will steal the wife's heart; and although she will resist for the kid's sake (and her conscience), she will eventually give in. However, I did enjoy the social commentary about the ultra rich, "posh" society in which the heroine lives. Holly Peterson has well researched (or perhaps experienced) the fashion, faux pas, lingo and decor of that group of upper citizenry, and has made it seem very real. She obviously knows her way around a TV News corporation from her years at ABC News, and it shows in her writing. The "explosive story" that takes up the time and attention of the heroine is ripped right from the headlines, and the shocking twist that almost destroys her career was nicely done. The fact that the husband is in on a shady deal of his own makes his "spousal demise" even more affective. The end of THE MANNY was provocative, and quite satisfying...after a few moments consideration. I liked the two characters better for their restraints.
Would you ever read a future book by Holly Peterson?
Yes, I would consider reading another book by Holly Peterson. Although chick lit is not my speciality, she somehow makes it seem more "mature."

What authors do you read?
I read many authors and enjoy many types of fiction. I like Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, Janet Evanovich, Patricia Cornwell, Sandra Brown, Jackie Collins, Jodi Picoult, and Eileen Gouge.
What did you think of THE MANNY?
I thought it was a good book. I was very surprised by how much sex was in it. In many ways, it felt to me like a chick lit novel with a touch of Jackie Collins. I thought the beginning and middle were much stronger than the end, but I think that goes with this being by a first-time author.
Would you ever read a future book by Holly Peterson?
I would be interested in reading other books by her.

What authors do you read?
Janet Evanovich, Jennifer Crusie, Vicki Lewis Thompson, Valerie Frankel, Meg Cabot, J. K. Rowling and many others.
What did you think of THE MANNY?
It was an interesting look at the rich upper crust of life. Holly Peterson does a good job of rattling skeletons in the closets of the elite. I was laughing over the barbed innuendos of the ever-richer neighbors. At the core of the story, a romance blossoms between Jamie Whitfield and her manny. Jamie constantly denies that she has feelings for him. Peterson offers plenty of twists and turns in her story to create suspense and irresistible charm. I really had a hard time putting this story down.
Would you ever read a future book by Holly Peterson?
Yes, definitely!

What authors do you read?
Authors I read: just about all of them that I can think of, except the sickeningly sweet Harlequin-type romance authors. I love to read just about anything else.
What did you think of THE MANNY?
I think THE MANNY is a very clever book and a new twist on a working woman's dilemma of where to find child care. I loved it!
Would you ever read a future book by Holly Peterson?
Yes, I would definitely read another book by Holly Peterson! Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.

What did you think of THE MANNY?
This book is totally predictable.
Who cares about the people of "The Grid," except for those who want to live there? Not me!
A good editor may have salvaged this drivel. Peter and Dylan kept secrets from Jamie. Phillip kept secrets from Jamie. It seems to me that the author was too lazy or too unimaginative to reveal what was really going on.
A storyline detailing how Peter drew Dylan out would have been interesting. I would have liked knowing exactly what illegal things Phillip was doing so he could have gone to prison where he deserved to be.
A complete waste of time, sure am glad I didn't have to buy it.
