Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Robert Goddard's NEVER GO BACK.
Michelle from Battle Creek, MI
Have you ever read Robert Goddard before?
No, this is the first of his books I have read, but I plan to read others.
What other authors do you read?
My favorite authors are Janet Evanovich, Patricia Cornwell, and James Patterson. I enjoy reading a variety of genres, but mysteries and thrillers are my favorites.
What did you think of NEVER GO BACK?
I loved this book! It hooked me from the beginning and easily kept my interest. The plot had many twists, and kept me guessing right through to the end. It had the feel of an Agatha Christie mystery. I would highly recommend it.
Would you ever read a future book by Robert Goddard?
Absolutely!

Have you ever read Robert Goddard before?
No, I've never read a book by Robert Goddard, but I love to try new authors. That is one thing that I absolutely love about my book group --- it opens me up to authors and books that I never would have read on my own. NEVER GO BACK is an example of one that I likely never would have read on my own.
What other authors do you read?
I don't really have a list of favorite authors; I love to try new writers with different styles. I often find that if I read too much of one author, their books begin to sound the same. But, in looking through my list of previous reads, some of my favorites have been Barbara Kingsolver, Dennis Lehane, Anne Tyler and Richard Russo.
What did you think of NEVER GO BACK?
Overall, I liked the book. The storyline had many twists with unexpected outcomes that I thought were very clever. It kept me interested, and I wanted to know what was going to happen next. One drawback was that I didn't feel that I could distinguish many of the characters from each other. They weren't developed and I didn't get a feel for who they were. The nicknames of the men just added to my confusion, and I had to work to keep them all straight. The focus of this book seemed to be the storyline, and the characters were simply there to act out the plot.
Would you ever read a future book by Robert Goddard?
I wouldn't rule it out, but I think I would choose other authors before I would read another Goddard book.
Dave from Newark, DE
Have you ever read Robert Goddard before?
No, I have not.
What other authors do you read?
I tend to [choose books based on interesting subject matter rather than the authors who write them]. However, I have read and enjoyed each of J. K.Rowling’s books. I have also recently read Steven D. Levitt, Gregory Maguire, and Frank McCourt.
What did you think of NEVER GO BACK?
I liked the plot and it held my interest throughout the book. Having said that, it did take me a bit to get the characters straight in the beginning (I had to reread early portions to set in my mind who was who and when they fit in with the story). I had some problems with the British colloquialisms (some of them I just had to read through without understanding what was implied by the words).
Would you ever read a future book by Robert Goddard?
Possibly.
Sherry from Broken Arrow, OK
Have you ever read Robert Goddard before?
No.
What did you think of NEVER GO BACK?
I didn't really care for it. It's not my type of book.
Would you ever read a future book by Robert Goddard?
Yes --- it could just be this book I didn't care for.
Eileen from Orland Park, IL
Have you previously read a book by Robert Goddard?
No, I have never read a book by Robert Goddard before.I would like to
read INTO THE BLUE and OUT OF THE SUN now that I've read this book.
What other authors do you usually read?
Other authors of this genre I read are: THE GHOST ORCHARD by Carol
Goodman, Jed Rubenfeld, Brian O'Doherty, Kathy Reichs and others.
What do you think of NEVER GO BACK?
The real story begins on the train up to Aberdeen, where one of the
group commits suicide, shattering the holiday atmosphere. Their arrival
in Scotland seems under a cloud, and when another comrade dies soon
afterwards, Harry is gripped by a sense of foreboding. Also, the
recollections of the old comrades of their time in the castle are
frighteningly different, and unexplained events from 1955 still haunt
them. As Harry tries to solve the mystery of what really happened fifty
years ago, he uncovers an extraordinary secret that convinces him he
will never leave the castle alive.
Would you ever read a future book by Robert Goddard?
Yes, the other two I mentioned above.
Paula from Hudson, OH
Have you previously read a book by Robert Goddard?
No, this was my first.
What other authors do you usually read?
I read many different authors and genres. There are a few that I make
a point of getting prior or future works from:John Grisham (earlier
books), Scott Turow, Jodi Picoult, Philippa Gregory, James Patterson,
Jeanne Kalogridis, Khaled Hosseini… There are more, but these folks
come to my mind immediately.
What do you think of NEVER GO BACK?
I enjoyed the book and am planning to pick up the earlier novels
featuring Harry Barnett --- INTO THE BLUE and OUT OF THE SUN.The
premise intrigued me and sucked me into the story right from the
beginning.I had a little difficulty keeping ‘who’s who’ straight.I
always enjoy a mystery that I can’t solve midway through the book, and
this was definitely one of them.
Would you ever read a future book by Robert Goddard?
