It was January, 1958 as the cold war was heating up, and the race for space
was at a frenzied pace. America had just one more chance to show the world
(and especially the Russians) that we could reign supreme in the space
program. Following the tragedies in the Jupiter program, and without a
brilliant victory in the Explorer program, the U. S. would formally be a
non-player in space exploration.
In January, 1958, the space race was the last thing on Luke's mind when he
awoke in the men's bathroom at Union Station in Washington, D. C., suffering
with what seemed to be a hangover. The only trouble was that he didn't know
anything about himself: where he lived, who he was, his profession, or most
importantly, how he got there. With no memory of his surroundings, Luke began
a solemn search for self and self preservation. What Claude (Luke) Lucas was
about to discover was that he had been a rocket scientist and that he had
been "removed" from the program just shortly before the launch of Explorer 1
--- the project on which he was instrumental.
Well-read by George Guidall, CODE TO ZERO is another great Follett. Filled
with strong characters and a terrific plot, with lots of action, romance, and
twists in the tale, we are cheering Luke all the way, as he survives his
plight and throws himself into the mire of intrigue, espionage, and
conspiracy. As always, enjoy!
