History
Every summer my mother resolves to read one fat history book "in the hopes of learning back some of the knowledge she's convinced she has lost since turning 50." Last summer she decided to tackle that 1600 page monstrosity, THE RISE AND FALL OF THE THIRD REICH. Now, I love my mother and admire her knowledge-seeking verve, but by August I thought I might scream if she injected one more newly learned tidbit about Hitler into our daily conversations. Below is a list of some new and notable history books. By all means, read with gusto --- just maybe think twice about drawing an analogy between The Beer Hall Putsch and your daughter's new job.

If there are history books you think our readers should not miss, drop me a note at Sarah@bookreporter.com.
