Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Jodi Compton's SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS.

austadj@aol.com

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
No, I have not read anything by Jodi.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Steve Hamilton, Kathy Reichs, James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
I thought it was excellent. It was hard to put down, kept things moving, the main character had a heart and it kept my interest to the end.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
Absolutely. In fact I'm going to go in search of her previous book so I can read that as well.

bbsol@earthlink.net

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
No, I had not.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, John Grisham, Michael Crichton, Lisa Gardner, Jodi Picolt and others.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
I thought it was excellent! Very well-written; it had a great mystery and suspense, but without gore, so I can recommend it to my husband.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
Yes, I definitely will. I enjoyed this book so much that I got 37th Hour to read as well.

BlindlyBookish@aol.com

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
No, I've never read any books by Jodi Comton before.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I like a lot of YA suspense writers like Gail Giles, Nancy Werlin and Caroline B. Cooney. I also enjoy Peter Abrahams.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS has been very good so far, but I haven't had the chance to finish it yet. So far it has been incredibly intriguing, inventive, and enthralling. If it continues this way, I'd definitely recommend it.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
Yes, I would definitely read a future title by Jodi Compton.

EOROSZ@aol.com

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
I read THE 37TH HOUR when it first came out and enjoyed it thoroughly, probably because I felt comfortable with Sarah Pribek immediately. I really like Sarah and, although the mystery and the mysteries surrounding the mystery are compelling, I feel that Sarah's personality drives the story line in both books.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Sue Grafton and John Grisham are among my favorite authors, but I also read other legal thrillers, psychological thrillers, police procedurals, lots of bestsellers and many new authors found on Bookreporter and other book newsletters; almost anything but war and/or spy novels. One fairly recent thriller that I couldn't put down was PARANOID by Joseph Finder.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
Having enjoyed THE 37TH HOUR so much, I was thrilled to see Jodi Compton's second book reviewed. And what a great surprise to find that it was even better than the first! I feel now that Sarah is a good friend and am hoping that Compton will continue Sarah's story in future books. I would enjoy learning more about Sarah's marriage and her childhood--she's a complex woman. I like her attitude and her approach to life.

JPerry@epicor.com

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
Yes, I have read THE 37TH HOUR --- just recently in fact. The setting was very interesting to me because I used to live in Minnesota and have relatives living in southern MN near Blue Earth.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Many! Sue Grafton, Marcia Muller, Sara Paretsky, Julia Spencer-Fleming, Robert Crais, Robert Parker, T. Jefferson Parker, etc., etc.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
Very interesting psychological study addressing what is really right and what is really wrong and all the gray areas in between. How Sarah makes these decisions for herself and, of course, how it affects others in her world makes for very thought-provoking reading.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
Yes! Can’t wait!!

keizerfire1@comcast.net

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
No, not that I know of.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Everyone I can get my hands on, probably 3-4 books a week. Recently, Daniel Hecht, Jasmine Creswell, Dan Brown, Dean Koontz, Kathy Reichs and Konrath.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
Excellent book. I stayed up all night reading it! Not good for my work performance. She writes in a way that makes you see and understand someof the very real dilemmas that law enforcement works with, combining the baggage they carry with their duty to their badge.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
Definitely!! I am going to find 37th Hour as soon as possible.

mountainmanyellowknife@msn.com

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
No.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Robert B. Parker, Lee Child, James Patterson, Jack Higgins, etc.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
Excellent writing. Enjoyed it very much. My wife intends to read it.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
Yes.

MZIZI@aol.com

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
Although I had never read anything by Jodi Compton, she will now be on my list of favorite authors.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
Have read mystery/suspense/thrillers by Patricia Cornwell, Jeffery Deaver, Iris Johansen, Robert Parker, Stuart Woods, all of the "alphabet" murders by Sue Grafton as well as the "number" series by Janet Evanovich, just to mention a few. I love to read if that doesn't show!

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
I actually really enjoyed SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS very much and now look forward to reading THE 37TH HOUR now that I have discovered a great new author! Jodi Compton has the ability to kepe the reader interest enough to read late into the night and sometimes cause me to be late back to work from a break or lunch because I couldn't stop in the middle of a chapter!

rongardner4@comcast.net

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
Yes, I read THE 37TH HOUR .

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
William Lashner, Sue Grafton, Ian Rankin, etc.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
I don't think it was quite as good as THE 37TH HOUR. Her efforts to tie up the plot lines seemed a bit clumsy. However, it was still an enjoyable read.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
Yes.

Vandy65@aol.com

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
Yes, I read THE 37TH HOUR.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I read Michael Connelly, Robert Parker, Robert Crais, Daniel Silva, Patricia Cornwell, John Sandford, Jeffery Deaver, Stuart Woods, Elmore Leonard, Harlan Coben, James Patterson, Jeff Lindsay, Rennie Airth, Thomas Harris, John Dunning, Ridley Pearson, P. J. Tracy, Randy Wayne White, James Lee Burke, Ed McBain, Jonathon King, Lawrence Block, etc.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
I loved the continuing character development of Sarah Pribek and think it is an intelligent mystery series, very well plotted.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
Yes, I will continue to read every book in this series.

cmatkovic@sbcglobal.net

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I read anything from Janet Evanovich to James Patterson and anything in between.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
Book got off to a rough start because of references to the first book, THE 37TH HOUR, which I haven't read (yet). Once I got past that, the book held my attention and the writing did make it tough to put the book down.

Have to admit, its kind of hard to review this book because of the handicap of not having read the prequel. Too many references detracted, for me, being able to make some sense out of what had happened previously and how some of it affected what was going on in this book. I don't think I can give a good review because of not having read the first book.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
I would definitely read other books by Jodi Compton and will start with THE 37TH HOUR.

landis@arm-tek.net

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
I also read THE 37TH HOUR.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I love Vince Flynn, Ian Rankin, Philip Margolin, Jeffery Deaver and John Connolly to name just a few.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
I didn't think it was as good as her first book. There were too many unresolved issues which left me feeling that Sarah hadn't made much progress in setting her life in order.

Sandn2shoes@aol.com

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
This was the first Jodi Compton book that I have read.

What other suspense/thriller writers do you read?
I usually read Lehane, DeMille, Grisham, Kellerman (Jonathan) and I am open to new authors all the time. I usually like drama/thrillers written by men.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
I felt confused with this book. It had several plots....Sarah's marriage, her being a murder suspect, the Hennessey children and their father, the missing "Aidan" Hennessey, and her relationship with Cicero. I was not sure where it was going. For me it did not flow, like some other stories I have read. There were no loose threads hanging at the end, but the story seemed choppy and jumping around.

As a medical professional, two things jumped ouot at me. One was the reference to taking someone's pulse with a finger....it is two fingers. This is a small item, but it did distract me. The other item was when the trellis broke and Sarah broke Marli's fall....it does not seem plausible that she would not have been sent to an ER. She could have gone to the ER and it would not have changed anything except taken away the opportunity for Cicero to delve into the reason she chose the line of work that she did.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
As of right now, I do not think I would read any other Jodi Compton stories but I am just one person who likes a certain genre.

HGS926@aol.com

Have you previously read a book by Jodi Compton?
This is my first book by Jodi Compton. I read (actually listen to a variety of books). I enjoy the writings of P.J. Tracy, Jilliane Hoffman, Sue Grafton, Lorenzo Carcaterra, Jonathan Kellerman, Marcia Muller etc.

What did you think of SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS?
SYMPATHY BETWEEN HUMANS is not a title I would have chosen for this book. I felt that I really needed to have read THE 37TH HOUR hour before SYMPATHY... There were too many unanswered questions about what happened when and why. This is a sad, depressing story. In many ways too realistic to be enjoyable reading. I just felt sorry for everyone involved. Maybe the title is correct after all. Can't say I'd recommend it and I hope it does well.

Would you ever read a future title by Jodi Compton?
I would probably read others by Compton, but not at the top of my list.
