QUESTIONS FROM READERS

Pam Lewis, Bookreporter.com's featured Debut Suspense/ Thriller author for March, answers readers' questions on the inspiration behind her latest novel and future projects, as well as personal experiences of surviving high school and raising children.

Barbwatergrove@aol.com: Yes, what will her next novel be, another thriller or a different type of story?

Pam Lewis: It will involve a bizarre drowning, the unraveling of a large, once-wealthy but now declining family, and the unearthing of secrets and deceptions.

KARLWG@aol.com: Do you have teenage girls?

Pam Lewis: No, I have two wonderfully calm and smart adult sons. When my second son was born I was relieved not be required to mother a teenaged girl. I think I put my own mother through her paces and was wondering if I would have to pay for that.

Marge.Guthrie@CIGNA.COM: Did you have any particular inspiration in writing this book?:

Pam Lewis: It began as some short stories, one about a school reunion, another about an all-night cross-country ski outing, another about a woman splitting wood to get a grip on her emotions. I realized I had a main character, a thread that ran through all the stories and plenty more where that came from. In other words, a novel.

Donnaleggate@aol.com: I would like to know what she has in mind for her next book and when that might be?

Pam Lewis: The working title is Perfect Family and it will be about a very imperfect family and how the unspoken has such power to dominate people's lives. I'm aiming for the end of 2007.

PWeppner@gc.cuny.edu: Did you attend Spence?

Pam Lewis: I went to public schools in California, Montreal, New Jersey and Washington DC before spending grades seven through 12 at Spence. It was a shock, a really steep learning curve. I'd never heard French, I'd never heard the words "noun" or "verb." But it was an excellent education small classes, lots of attention. Socially it wasn't so easy, but high school is tough no matter where you go.
