Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Peter Temple's BAD DEBTS.

Cynthia from Plaistow, NH

Have you previously read a book by Peter Temple?
No, I have not.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Kay Hooper, Catherine Coulter, Tess Gerritsen and Lisa Scottoline, etc. Too many to list!

What did you think of BAD DEBTS?
I thought that BAD DEBTS was an excellent book! I had some trouble with the [Australian] lingo (I have a great friend that walked me through some of it and snatched my other Peter Temple book!) but pressed on. Jack Irish is a great character with a complex background just trying to get by in life. The book gets you instantly when Jack get a suspicious "phone call" from an ex-client. Jack can't remember him and starts an adventure that Jack should have never pursued. Peter Temple slowly ties you into a knot and then can't let you go. It was a very fast paced book and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't steal it from me first.

Would you ever read a future book by Peter Temple?
Yes. I will read the other book I was sent by The Book Report Network once I get it back from a thief!

Janine from Leola, AR

Have you previously read a book by Peter Temple?
BAD DEBTS is the first book by Peter Temple that I have read.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read books by a great number of suspense/thriller authors like William Coughlin, John Grisham, Jonathan and Faye Kellerman, David Baldacci, James Grippando, Robert B. Parker and Thomas Perry, etc.

What did you think of BAD DEBTS?
I liked the way Mr. Temple built the characters in his book, especially the main character Jack Irish. I enjoyed Mr. Temple's style of writing. The development of the storyline was well-paced and exciting, and I loved his sense of humor.

Would you ever read a future book by Peter Temple?
I will definitely keep an eye out for other books by Peter Temple and add him to my list of favored authors. Thanks so much for the chance to preview this superb author.

Mary Ann from Rocky Point, NY

Have you previously read a book by Peter Temple?
I have not previously read a book by Peter Temple.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read Elizabeth George, Charles Todd, Thomas Cook, Ngaio Marsh, Colin Dexter, Nelson DeMille, Martha Grimes, Ruth Rendell, Reginald Hill, P.D. James, Michael Connelly and
James Lee Burke, to name a few.

What did you think of BAD DEBTS?
This was my first experience reading a crime novel situated in Australia. I gained much insight about Australia from the author's description of cities, country side and very colorful dialect. I thoroughly enjoyed the character of Jack Irish. He was a hero without being a super hero, which made him believable. The two-fold theme, Jack's solving of the events leading up to Anne Jeppeson's murder and his and Linda's exposure of the corrupt political practices surrounding the development of Yarra Cove, plus Jack's side involvement with Harry Strang and the racing element of the story was an interesting combination. I thought both were well-written, offering a lot of information about the world of racing and the seedy side of politics. It was a fast moving, hold your attention story. I particularly enjoyed the Australian take on words, only wished I had a glossary to explain some of the meanings. The side characters were well-defined, particularly Charlie Taub and his relationship with Jack. A lot of information to digest at times, but all coming together for a satisfying conclusion.

Would you ever read a future book by Peter Temple?
Yes, I would read another Peter Temple book.

Randi from Trinity, FL

Have you previously read a book by Peter Temple?
No, I have read nothing by Mr. Temple before.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I've read everything from le Carre to King to Koontz to Mary Shelley, Lustbader, Ludlum, etc. I read an ARC by Richard Hawke last week that was wonderful too.

What did you think of BAD DEBTS?
I thought it was great! It was wonderful. Quick, twisting plot with easily believable characters. Outside of the colloquialisms that were a bit confusing at first, I received it, opened the package, sat down and read it straight through! So I'd have to add "compelling" to my list of adjectives! No loose ends that I could find either --- everything tied in expertly. Overview (just so you know I did read it!): an attorney, lately handling mere conveyances following his wife's tragic end, finds himself involved in trying to undo a wrong perpetrated years before, to one of his clients. The client ends up dead and the Australia authorities may have something to do with it.

Would you ever read a future book by Peter Temple?
Yes! Without a doubt!

Rosalie from Georgetown, KY

Have you previously read a book by Peter Temple?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
James Patterson is the author I read most often.

What did you think of BAD DEBTS?
I found the book to "grab" me early on, which of course is great! It made me anxious to read the sequel. Temple is a most "descriptive" writer --- makes you feel like you know the characters personally and that you are "living the story!!!"

Would you ever read a future book by Peter Temple?
Definitely!

Carl from Portland, OR

Have you previously read a book by Peter Temple?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Nelson DeMille, Lee Child and James Patterson are names that come to mind.

What did you think of BAD DEBTS?
I enjoyed it. Liked his sense of humor. [Temple] does dialogue well. However, it would have helped to have a dictionary of Australian slang nearby.

Would you ever read a future book by Peter Temple?
Sure. (You sent me with two books, remember?) Would I buy a third? Maybe.

Debb from Grand Island, NE

Have you previously read a book by Peter Temple?
No, I haven't, but now that I have been introduced to his work, I will be sure to read them all!

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Greg Iles, John Lescroart and James Siegel.

What did you think of BAD DEBTS?
I finished BAD DEBTS in two days! I love books written in the first person, so I loved every minute of BAD DEBTS! Peter Temple has a wonderfully dry sense of humor in his writing and even though this is a "thriller" in every sense of the word, I caught myself laughing out loud!

Would you ever read a future book by Peter Temple?
Absolutely! His books have become some of my favorites!
