Carole from Greenwich, CT

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
Yes, all of her books.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Dean Koontz and Ruth Rendell.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
[The author writes with] excellent breathless quality and lyricism about lovemaking and snow in Manhattan. There are realistic complexities and observations about human nature and nervous mannerisms, as well as Morgan's family life and the secrets that a therapist learns --- but then is not supposed to tell anybody. She also drew fascinating portraits of sexual compulsions. My only regret is that Morgan Snow somehow (too much coincidence here) just happens to be working again, as in previous book, on the same case that involves Noah Jordain and the police. There must be some less obvious way to involve them in each other's work life?

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
Of course.

Charlie from Willowbrook, IL

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
I think I have read one of M.J. Rose's books before, but I'm not positive. I read at least one book a week and mysteries and suspense stories are my favorites.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read Robert B. Parker, Lawrence Block, J. A. Jance, James Lee Burke, Andrew Vachss and Dean Koontz, to name a few.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
I found THE VENUS FIX extremely intense and very readable at the same time. The story was somewhat grim, but most mysteries arel. I kept reading; it is a "hard one to put down."

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
I actually have another of Ms. Rose’s books on my list of books to read in the future. It will be a while before I do so, however; I can't imagine reading two of her books back to back.

Cindy from North Caldwell, NJ

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
Yes, I read LIP SERVICE.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read Dean Koontz and Stephen King. I used to read Mary Higgins Clark.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?

I enjoyed THE VENUS FIX. I did not guess the ending. I had never read a Dr. Morgan Snow book before, and ordinarily, I will not read a book that has a continuing character if I have not read the previous books. I felt in some ways that I was at a disadvantage, as though I would have enjoyed the story even more if I had had the opportunity to read more about Morgan prior to this book. But, all in all, it was an interesting read. [Editor’s note: this comment was edited to prevent spoilers]

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
Yes, I would read another M.J. Rose book. I don't remember what LIP SERVICE was about, but I do recall that I liked it, and I liked this one, so I would certainly read another.

Danna from Highlands, TX

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
No, I have not, but I plan to after reading this engrossing book.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Jeffery Deaver, Dan Brown, Michael Connelly and others.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
I enjoyed the storyline and the unusual topic. The characters were well rounded and sympathetic. The action flowed and the pace was comfortable and easy to follow.

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
I look forward to acquiring some of her past works, as well as anticipate her next effort.

I do want to thank you so very much for allowing me to preview M.J. Rose and for introducing me to a new author!

Deanna from Carlisle, MA

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
This is my first book by M.J. Rose, but it will not be my last. I plan to read this series from the beginning.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read J. D. Robb, Jayne Ann Krentz, Elizabeth Lowell, Kate Wilhem, George Chesbro, Linda Fairstein, Richard Forrest, Mary-Anne Tirone Smith, Linda Howard, Tess Gerritsen, Walter Mosley, Evelyn Anthony, Ralph McInerny, John Sandford, Lincoln Child, Douglas Preston, Lisa Jackson, Ivor Drummond, and many more too numerous to mention. I read many other genres as well.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
The VENUS FIX is a novel that starts slowly and builds up to a finish that will have you guessing and on the edge of your chair. The main characters are recognizable, interesting and have us rooting for them to come out of the mystery intact. The romance is an integral part of this book, and I would believe of the series. I found the story very interesting. I also thought that the author had researched her subject of online sex well, both as to what is to be found there, who the players are, and who watches and why.

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
Thank you for the opportunity to get acquainted with this author. I am looking forward to many happy hours reading her stories.

Ellen from Wilmington, DE

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
I previously read THE HALO EFFECT.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I also read books by Erica Spindler.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
I enjoyed reading THE VENUS FIX. I read it straight through. I thought the storyline’s concept about the websites was different and fascinating.

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
Yes, I would read another M.J. Rose book.

Felipe from Dallas, TX

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
I have read all of M.J. Rose's fiction books.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?

Harlan Coben (his stand-alone novels), Barry Eisler, James Patterson, John Grisham, Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine, Mo Hayder, Elizabeth George, Kate Pepper, Laura Rowland, John Case, Dan Brown and Blake Crouch, etc.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
Like the first two books in this series, THE VENUS FIX is a great psychological suspense novel with interesting characters and situations that keeps you glued until the last page. I'm glad to see an author who is not afraid of exploring the mysteries and complexities of human sexuality in her suspense novels. This book, along with her recent LYING IN BED, are the perfect summer escape books.

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
Definitely. She's one of my favorite authors.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this ARC.

Gail from Philadelphia, PA

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
This is the first book I've read by M.J. Rose, but it won't be the last. I knew it was the third in her series about the Butterfield Institute and I was hoping I wouldn't have trouble picking up the storyline. I needn't have worried. It's a brilliantly written novel that can stand on its own.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I'm a big fan of psychological suspense and have read everything by Keith Ablow, Jeffery Deaver and Mo Hayder.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
The characters are three dimensional, especially the strong female lead. The subject, Internet porn, could be ripped from today's headlines, but Rose attacks it in a fresh new way.

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
I will most definitely be ordering Rose's previous books.

Jane from Sparta, NC

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
Although suspense/thriller is not my usual genre, I enjoyed the book. I have just experienced the traumatic death of a beloved pet, so I needed something to read that held my rapt attention as well as being unsentimental. This book was perfect. The way the plot was put together was interesting, and the interplay between the police and the therapist made for an added twist. Online pornography is a very current problem, which also added another interesting factor.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read? Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
I really have read very few suspense/thriller novels other than a couple by Thomas Harris, but I might possibly read another by M.J. Rose.

Thanks for the opportunity to read this book.

Jeanne from Brea, CA

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
No, I haven't.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read a lot of authors in this genre: the Kellermans, Nelson DeMille, James Patterson, Jeffery Deaver and Robert B. Parker.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
I enjoyed reading this book. It is a fast read and a good selection for an airport bookstore. The theme of the book saves it from just being another thriller. It is as current as today's newspaper. The characters were very vivid and I came to care about what happened to them.

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
Yes.

Kasi from Houston, TX

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
No, I have never read a book by M.J. Rose.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Brad Thor, James Rollins, James Patterson, Barry Eisler, John Twelve Hawks, Ridley Pearson, Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, Lee Child, John Dunning, Michael Connelly and Vince Flynn.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
I'm 3/4th the way through --- have not totally finished it.

The book grabs you on the first page and doesn't want to let you go. Her short chapters and the change of characters from chapter to chapter make for an interesting layout and building of the characters’ psychological problems that add to the storyline. Each alternating chapter adds another layer to the major characters’ makeup and allows you to slowly understand where the major storyline is leading.

I have never read an erotic book like this one before. Rose gets and holds your attention on the first page, and creates sexual tension throughout the book. Her graphic descriptions of the various sexual encounters of her "net playmates" give readers the insight into why porn sites are so popular; she also arouses curiosity on whether they should look further into visiting the porn sites. Sometimes, to live vicariously is almost as good as the" real thing," and the imagination and visual conception of the readers are what makes her words so powerful. Would an actual online porn site achieve the same effect?

Watching [certain characters] makes you wonder if a lot of people use porn sites as a substitute for the real world, and occurrences in the novel help readers to further understand any rationalizations [or pre-conceived notions] they have on the topic. It is not a quick read; there is so much self-analysis that must be done as the doctor goes through her sessions with various people, even though those problems may or may not apply to the reader.

I definitely have enjoyed the book so far and look forward to finishing it. [Editor’s note: this comment was edited to prevent spoilers]

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
Yes, but I want to read the past titles first and then continue on with future titles.

Mary from Wamego, KS

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
It's been quite a while since I have read many of these. Most recently, I did read Julie Garwood's MURDER LIST.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
It kept my attention from the very beginning. In fact, I stayed up two hours beyond normal to finish it the same day I started it. Interesting plot (not something I have read before) and well-written. I liked the interaction between Morgan and the police boyfriend, her daughter and her co-worker. I was fascinated with the "therapy," as this is an area I know nothing about.

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
Probably. Once I have tried a new author, I am much more likely to pick up more of their work.

T. from Palm Bay, Florida

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
No, this [is] my first.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Dean Koontz and James Patterson

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
I loved the book. I couldn't put it down. M.J. Rose wrote a great story. I was able to experience the journey the author took me on in such a way that the book resonated with me long after I had finished reading it. It was an incredible journey. The author has an excellent writing style and a story plot that I never had read before. Readers are sure to enjoy this book.

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
Definitely.

Thank you for the opportunity in previewing this book. I highly recommend it!

Anitha from Diamond Bar, CA

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
I have not previously read a book by M.J. Rose.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read Lee Child's novels and some of David Baldacci's.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
I found it interesting that it dealt with psycho-social issues and teenagers. I liked the mother-daughter interaction, but I found the romance with the police officer lacking.

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
I would read a future title, but I would have to find the premise interesting.

Thanks for the free book. I love to read!

Matt from Walker, MI

Have you previously read a book by M.J. Rose?
I have not previously read a book by M.J. Rose.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I have read every book by John Grisham, Tom Clancy, David Baldacci, and Brad Meltzer, as well as some of Robert Ludlum's titles.

What did you think of THE VENUS FIX?
It was an intriguing plot with an uncomfortable topic. The twist at the end was a welcome surprise. I would have been disappointed if the murderer had been [a certain character], as I kept thinking there was no way a good author would make the murderer that obvious. [Editor’s note: this comment was edited to prevent spoilers]

Would you ever read a future title by M.J. Rose?
It is safe to say that I probably won't be reading another “erotic thriller,” but it was interesting to try out a new genre.

Thanks for the opportunity to try a new genre. I look forward to an opportunity to try this again with a more mainstream/pop thriller/legal story.
