David Morrell
Fast Facts:
- David was born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
- At the age of 17, David became a fan of the classic television show "Route 66." He was so impressed by the scripts that he was inspired to become a writer.
- David moved to the United States in 1966 and studied with author Philip Young at Penn State, where he earned his M. A. and Ph. D. in American Literature.
- David's debut fiction novel, FIRST BLOOD, is about a returning Vietnam veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Its big-screen adaptation, Rambo, starred Sylvester Stallone.
- David taught English at the University of Iowa from 1970 to 1968 before he decided to focus on writing full time.
- David's book FIREFLIES is a memoir about the death of his son Matthew, who passed away in 1987 from a rare form of bone cancer.
- As a child, David enjoyed exploring deserted buildings. This activity partly inspired his novel CREEPERS, which is about a group of "urban spelunkers" who break into a dilapidated motel in Asbury Park, NJ.
- David has written 29 books, including his latest release, SCAVENGER --- a suspense/thriller about a high-tech scavenger hunt for a 100-year-old time capsule. A state-of-the art Internet video game was created for the novel, which can be found at http://www.scavengerthegame.com.
- XAlong with author Gayle Lynds, David is the co-founder and co-president of the International Thriller Writers Organization.
- David is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School for wilderness survival, as well as the G. Gordon Liddy Academy of Corporate Security, and is an honorary lifetime member of the Special Operations Association and the Association of Former Intelligence Officers. He is trained in firearms, hostage negotiation, assuming identities, executive protection and anti-terrorist driving.
- David currently lives with his wife, Donna, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
