Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Barry Eisler's REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN.

CJ from Sheldonville, MA

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
I had not read Mr. Eisler’s work until REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I enjoy Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Stephen Woodworth and Stephen Hunter.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
Superbly researched. The novel immerses the reader in the life of a professional assassin. Rain, somehow, is a likeable character despite his profession and his jetset lifestyle. The engaging plot and the complexity of his character had me turning pages late into the night.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
Yes. I will likely go back and read the previous John Rain books.

Donna from Macomb, MI

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
I have never read anything by Barry Eisler before.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I usually read John Sandford, Jonathan Kellerman, Greg Iles, John Lescroart, Linda Fairstein, Jeffery Deaver, Dennis Lehane, and John Gilstrap. I'm always on the lookout for new thrillers.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
I loved REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN. I couldn't put it down. Loved the characters. I would rate 5 out of 5 stars.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
I would love to read more of Barry Eisler's work.

John from Austin, TX

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
Thank you for letting me read and comment on this book. I have read all of the books in the John Rain series by Mr. Eisler, in order, and in very close proximity to when they came out. I have enjoyed each of them just a little more than the previous one, and REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN is the same. I was most fortunate to receive this book to read and comment ---- sort of a small windfall!

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Many. Although not inclusive, my favorites list includes James Lee Burke, John Connolly, Joe Lansdale, Lee Child, Stephen King, Vince Flynn, Tim Green, Greg Iles, Andy McNab, Thomas Perry, John Sandford, Randy Wayne White, and F. Paul Wilson. When their books come out, I will make it a point to read them soon.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
This book is just as well written and entertaining as the earlier published John Rain books. Once you accept the premise of a Japanese-American assassin who has a good but flawed persona --- a killer with a conscience --- and friends in many key places, you will enjoy this book immensely. The plot flows smoothly and makes sense with lots of good twists, the characters act in normal ways and develop as they should, the background explanations are adequately incorporated, and action scenes are written realistically. If I had a recommendation to readers, though, it would be to read the other five books in the series first. It is not important to your enjoyment of the book, but doing so will definitely increase it. Reading the [previous books] will help you understand the background buildup and character development better, as it applies to John Rain and some of the surrounding characters who move from book to book with him.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
Mr. Eisler is one of my favorites; he is on my list of authors I track, and I will ALWAYS read his books when they are published.

Kathy from Gardena CA

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
First time.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
J. A. Jance, Janet Evanovich, Perri O'Shaughnessy; pretty much everyone.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
I enjoyed it so much that I will have to get all the previous John Rain books.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
Definitely --- can't wait.

Kenneth from Norwood, NJ

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler? What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
I was privileged to receive a preview copy of Barry Eisler's latest John Rain novel and I enjoyed it immensely. [I didn't want it to end, which is how i feel] with all good novels.

I picked up John Rain in Barry's second novel, then immediately went back to the first in the series. John Rain has become on of my favorite characters --- flawed, yet extremely skilled and dedicated; enigmatic, rather than charismatic.  In fact, John Rain is one of the least flamboyant "heroes" I remember.  James Bond or Matt Helm he's not, and vive la difference.  You find yourself rooting for him to kill two people he's never met (who, in their own right, may be good people as well) so he can save his friend.  I'll have to ask a psychologist acquaintance what this means in my own psyche.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read many other suspense authors --- John Sandford, Greg Bear, Alistair McLean, Ian Fleming, James Lee Burke, Peter O'Donnell, Lee Child (these last two --- also contain two very flawed characters who are sympathetic in that they are true to their friends and themselves) etc.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
Barry Eisler is definitely on my "look for" list. Keep up the good work, Barry Eisler!!

Kris from LaCrescent, MN

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
No, I have not read anything written by Barry Eisler.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
James Patterson, Lee Child, John Grisham.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
There was enough drama to keep me reading to find out what happens next. The characters definitely have some personal agendas.  Even though I should not, I feel sorry for Dox. Rain has some tough choices to make.  Hilary has Rain do his dirty work, coward.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
Yes, I like how this author creates the characters and story, and keeps the reader moving through the plot.

Larry from Greensboro, NC

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
Yes, I have read all of Barry Eisler's books.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Henning Mankell, Ian Rankin, Daniel Silva, Robert Harris, Val McDermid, many of the SOHO Crime Series books.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
I enjoyed it. The pace picked up in the last half of the book, once the second hit took place. I thought the last section in Rotterdam and Amsterdam could have been a little longer, building more suspense between Rain and Hilger. Dox had his usual funny lines.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
Yes. I would like to see Rain spend more time in Japan. His character seems to fit better in the Orient instead of Europe.

Liza from Chicago, IL

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
Yes, I have read Barry Eisler before. I read his first book introducing John Rain, RAIN FALL, then I followed with HARD RAIN.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Other suspense authors that I enjoy are Laura Lippman, Val McDermid and Denise Mina.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
I liked REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN very much. John Rain is a likable character, a killer with a heart, a man who wants to retire from the "life," but finds it so hard to do.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
I would definitely read another Barry Eisler book! I wait for them! Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC before the book hits the stores.

Michelle from Ames, IA

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
No, this was my first book by Mr. Eisler.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Harlan Coben, Lisa Gardner, John Grisham, Michele Martinez, Sandra Brown and Iris Johansen, to name a few!

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
Once I started the book, I couldn't put it down. After the first few chapters, once I got all the characters down, I really enjoyed the story. It takes place in many different places, and I could easily visualize all of them. I plan on passing this along to other members of my book club (and family) that are lovers of suspense/thriller stories. I'm sure they will enjoy this book as much as I did.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?

Yes, and I'm going to put his prior books on my summer reading list.

Mike from Lincoln, CA

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
Yes, I have read each and everyone of the "Rain" thrillers.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I enjoy Stephen King, John Connolly, Elmore Leonard, John D. MacDonald, Jeffery Deaver, Jack Ketchum, Joe Hill, Walter Mosley, Martin Cruz Smith and anyone who looks good.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN was, for my money, the best John Rain book to date. I really won't speak too much on the plot for I would ruin it, but suffice it to say Barry Eisler has done it again.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
I buy all Eisler's book soon after they come out in hardback.

Sherri from Sun City West, AZ

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
I had never read a book by Barry Eisler, but I will be out looking for the other books written by him.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN? Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
I just now finished the book, and loved every minute of it!

I look forward to finding out more about Rain. I found it interesting to be inside a killer's head. Most books are about the chase, which I love, too, but you don't get to listen to their thoughts --- the way they process what they are doing, or are going to do; how do they deal with this "job" mentally; is it just a job or a addiction? I thought he would be a psychopath in every sense of the word, but he wasn't, although Iceman seemed to be.

Now I have to go back and read the other books to see how Rain became Iceman. The tidbits of his background call to you to find out more.

Thanks again for the great read!

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Some of the favorite suspense books I've read have been Dean Koontz's INTENSITY, although his books aren't always that suspenseful. I enjoyed THE BONE COLLECTOR and THE COFFIN DANCER by Jeffery Deaver, but I didn't like all of his books. I also like James Patterson's Cross series. These, of course, were all about the chase I spoke of. This book here was unique in that It was from the other side... the one who was doing the chasing... his point of view. I really liked the book would give it a five on your rating scale, which I don't give often.

Susan from Pembroke Pines, FL

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
I have not read any other books by Barry Eisler.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
I read Lee Child, Jeffery Deaver, Tess Gerritsen, James Patterson, Jonathan Kellerman, Michael Crichton, Catherine Coulter, Patricia Cornwell, Michele Martinez, Lisa Gardner and other authors occasionally.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
I enjoyed reading the book and found the assassin's point of view an interesting way to present the story. I plan to read the other John Rain books to find out more about the lead character. I liked John Rain as a character, similar to liking Jack Reacher in Lee Child's books. They are not the best looking or the most upstanding citizens, but are very engaging in stories.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
Yes.

Tom from Del City, OK

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
Yes.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Michael Connelly, John Sandford and James Patterson.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
I really liked this book. Eisler’s writing is so immediate that I felt I knew his characters personally. After the first few chapters, I was hooked. Setting this book down was not an option for me --- I was so involved in the story.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
Yes.

Anita from Barnesville, GA

Have you previously read a book by Barry Eisler?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you read?
Greg Iles, David Baldacci, Jonathan Kellerman, James Patterson, Kathy Reichs, Catherine Coulter, Iris Johansen, Lisa Gardner, and many, many more.

What did you think of REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN?
I thought the story line and the reading were very slow paced, but other than that, I enjoyed it.

Would you ever read a future book by Barry Eisler?
Yes, I would give another book a try.
