QUESTIONS FROM READERS

M.J. Rose answers readers' questions about sources of inspiration, recurring characters in future installments of her series and the surprise ending of THE REINCARNATIONIST.

Donald from Chula Vista, CA: I know this is the first book of a series. Will any of the characters in THE REINCARNATIONIST make another appearance?

M.J. Rose: There will be a character here and there who will come back, but not in the way most series work. Rather, each book will be about a different "memory tool." I've invented 12 of these tools, suggested they were were created in ancient India 5,000 years ago, and that they help us get in touch with our past lives. Each one is lost, and is extremely valuable and important to those who want to prove reincarnation. This way, if I want to write about reincarnation for a while, I've got my job cut out for me.

Joan from Niagara Falls, ON: Where do you draw your ideas from when starting a new novel?

M.J. Rose: From all over. I read a lot, I visit a lot of musuems and art galleries. I try to travel. I watch the History Channel :) And I have an overactive imagination, I think.

Judith from Baton Rouge, LA: What was the reason behind the decision to end the book the way you did?

M.J. Rose: I didn't really have much choice --- the characters took over at a certain point, and while it wasn't the ending I originally had planned, it was the fitting ending for the story.

Sandra from Arleta, CA: Will you write another book along these lines? About reincarnation?

M.J. Rose: The second in the series, THE MEMORIST, is what I'm writing right now. It, too, has to do with past lives.

Yvonne from El Sobrante, CA: How long do we readers have to wait for another masterpiece like THE REINCARNATIONIST?

M.J. Rose: Thank you so much. The next one should be out in late '08 or early '09. I'm writing as fast as I can, but these books take a while. They're so complex.
