Here are comments from our group of Advance Readers about Linda Fairstein's KILLER HEAT.

Angela from Greenville, SC

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
No, I haven't.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read Erica Spindler, John Grisham, Ann Rule, Mary Higgins Clark and Patricia Cornwell.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
I really enjoyed the characters, the setting, and the plot. I was very surprised at some of the history that was covered in this book --- I didn't know a lot of it. This was well written and wasn't your typical "who done it” murder mystery. Very good read, indeed!

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, I would. In fact, I'm looking for her first novel, FINAL JEOPARDY. I would love to see how it all began!

Annette from Auburn, AL

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
This is the first book I have read by Linda Fairstein. I was thrilled to get this opportunity. I had seen her talk about it on “The Today Show.”

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read James Patterson, Dan Brown, Sandra Brown and Elizabeth Berg.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
I enjoyed this book. It is the first novel I have read with the heroine, Alex Cooper, and I plan on reading the others. I found the book to be very suspenseful. I could not put it down. I wanted to see what happened next. I am definitely recommending it to my friends.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes. I am excited to read more with this heroine, Alex Cooper.

Carmen from Newark, NJ

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
This was the first time I have ever read a book by Linda Fairstein, but I have been missing out! I loved it.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
The suspense/thriller authors I usually read include: Sandra Brown, Lisa Gardner, Erica Spindler, Heather Graham, Lisa Scottoline, Lisa Jackson, Mary Higgins Clark, James Patterson and, most recently, Michele Martinez. I love to read! Mystery is my favorite genre, but I also enjoy contemporary lit and chick lit!

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
Well, I really enjoyed this book tremendously. I am sorry I had not read Linda Fairstein before.

First off, her characters are immediately captivating. I did not "meet" Alex Cooper until this book, but I liked her immediately and cared about what was happening around her. I think that having engaging characters is very important because as a reader, if I don't care about the character in the first 25-30 pages or so, I put the book down. But this book kept me reading.

The other thing I liked about this book (I don't know if she does this in all her books) is how she intertwines stories. There are a few stories going on at the same time. They aren't all big stories, but I became interested in each one.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
I most definitely would read all future books by Linda Fairstein. I have already ordered ENTOMBED so I can catch up on some of her older novels. I found the history and description of places very fascinating. I don't know why I never read Fairstein before, but I loved the fact that the story was based in New York and she described places that are a stone's throw away from where I live (two blocks away from Liberty state Park in NJ). I have found myself another favorite author and cannot wait to see what's next!

Carol from Chelsea, OK

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, about three of them.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read a wide variety of authors, including Tom Clancy and Allison Brennan. There are way too many to list here.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
It was pretty good, definitely on par with her others. I do have to suspend belief some, since I doubt that members of the DA offices (even in New York City) get into some of the same scrapes that Alex does, though!

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, I probably will.

Carrie from Middleburg, FL

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
I have read all of her books.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read Jilliane Hoffman, Iris Johansen and whoever else catches my eye.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
I liked KILLER HEAT, and I think it is an improvement over previous books by Linda Fairstein. The plot seems to move along better, without a lot of the background info to slow it down.

While there is still history mixed in, it doesn't interfere with the plot. It is a little predicable, but what would a Linda Fairstein book be without Alex's life in danger?

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Cindy from Lewisville, NC

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, I've read all of her books.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read Patricia Cornwell, James Grippando, James Patterson, Harlan Coben and John Lescroart.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
I liked the book overall, but I wasn't as crazy about all the history of the forts included in it. I think all of the details take away from the story line rather than enhancing it.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, I will continue to read her books. I love the legal and police procedural parts as well as the tension between Alex and Mike.

Connie from Everett, WA

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, J. D. Robb, Jeffery Deaver, James Rollins, David Baldacci, Kathy Reichs, Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child, Dan Brown and others.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
I enjoyed the middle to the end of the book. I liked the flow of the story and the development of the characters.

I thought the first part was slow; not having read any of her books before, I really did not know the main characters and their backgrounds. I did think that the description of what happens in each jurisdiction was right on. It was also good to see what changes have taken place in the justice system with the new techniques we have today.

I think that the fact that Linda Fairstein is a legal expert in these fields helps in getting correct information in her stories. Her book reminds me of those by Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, I will. I will also look for her older books.

Donna from Macomb, MI

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
I have read almost all of the Alex Cooper novels.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read John Sandford, Jonathan Kellerman, Jeffery Deaver, Laura Lippman, Michael W. Sherer, John Lescroart, Greg Iles, Lisa Scottoline, Dennis Lehane, Nicci French and Joy Fielding.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
I loved it. I enjoyed the suspense. I feel like I'm visiting a friend when I read an Alex Cooper book. Also, I enjoy the history lessons she incorporates. I always feel wiser as well as entertained after reading Linda Fairstein.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes.

Dorothy from Front Royal, VA

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read Peter Robinson, James Siegel and Joseph Kanon.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
I liked it. Linda Fairstein brings her background of prosecuting sex crimes to the fore, and creates a believable Alex Cooper. I'm going back to start with FINAL JEOPARDY and read straight through the series!

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes!

Irene from Naperville, IL

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
I have read BAD BLOOD and ENTOMBED.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read John Grisham, Dennis Lehane, T. Jefferson Parker, Nelson DeMille, Michael Connelly and Jeffery Deaver.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
I liked KILLER HEAT. Whenever I read one of her books I learn so much about law and New York City.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
I can't wait until another one comes out. I would definitely get it.

Kim from Polk City, IA

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
No, I have never read any of Ms. Fairstein’s previous books.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
Other authors I have enjoyed include J. D. Robb, Janet Evanovich and Michele Martinez.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
Based on the overview of the book that I had seen on Bookreporter.com, I was anticipating a “good read.” This book was even better than I expected, with several complex characters who were described in enough detail that I didn’t feel like I was walking into the “middle of a story,” even though Alex, Mike and Mercer are characters from some of Ms. Fairstein’s previous books. It is obvious that Ms. Fairstein understands the city of New York and how the police and judicial system interact throughout cases.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
I’m looking forward to reading other books by this author and will also be sharing this copy with several other acquaintances who like this type of book for entertainment.

Laura from South Berwick, ME

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
I have never read a book by Linda Fairstein.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I love Mignon G. Eberhart and Natalie R. Collins.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
I thought it was pretty engaging and intense. A very enjoyable book that is not like most of what I usually read.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, I would.

Norma from Mesa, AZ

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, I have read all of her books.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
Lisa Scottoline, Janet Evanovich, Jonathan Kellerman, Faye Kellerman, James Patterson, J. A. Jance, Robert B. Parker, Kathy Reichs, Sue Grafton and Jane Haddam are among my favorites.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
It was interesting on many levels. I didn't want to do anything else until I finished reading it.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Absolutely.

Shaun from Lawrenceburg, TN

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
No, this is my first one.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I enjoy reading Stephen King.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
This was a great read. My wife is reading it now and she loves it as well.

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, definitely. She is a good writer.

Thelma from from Austin, TX

Have you previously read a book by Linda Fairstein?
No.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read Michael Connelly, James Lee Burke, Lee Child, F. Paul Wilson and Dan Simmons.

What did you think of KILLER HEAT?
This book was very enjoyable, and was an escapist and quick read. The historical background about serial rapists, New York boroughs, and especially the New York military history and supplies was the best part of the novel.

The only detractors I had with the enjoyment of this book concerned the conflict in my mind on how a DA went about her business. Is it normal for a DA to always visit every scene and fight with the killer?

Would you ever read a future book by Linda Fairstein?
Yes, I would --- but not if Alex Cooper always fights off the killer. Then it becomes a formula and too predictable. I hope this is not the pattern for Alex Cooper, DA. I stopped reading a popular series with a pathologist protagonist because she was always facing down the killer at the end.
