- Joan is a bestselling and award-winning author of 46 novels, including THE NEXT MRS. BLACKTHORNE, NO LONGER A STRANGER, SISTERS FOUND, THE LONER, and A LOVING DEFIANCE. Her books have appeared on the New York Times, USA TODAY and Publishers Weekly Bestseller Lists, and has more than 10 million books in print worldwide.
- Joan has a bachelors degree in theater arts from Jacksonville University, a master’s in theater from the University of Illinois in Urbana and a juris doctorate with honors from the University of Texas, Austin School of Law.
- Before turning to writing fiction, Joan worked a number of different jobs in several locales. She was an attorney in Richmond, VA, and Miami, FL, and a newspaper editor, drama critic and director of theatre in Texas. She also held positions as a college professor, most recently at the University of Miami.
- To lend her books an air of authenticity, Joan travels far and wide to do firsthand research. She has been to England and Scotland, as well as traveled to Tahiti, Australia and Bali for a South Seas, World War II novel that she hopes to write. For her Bitter Creek series, she toured the legendary King Ranch in South Texas and took a course on tracking (humans and animals) from a deputy marshal deep in the Big Bend country of West Texas. She also has taken firearm courses and traveled to Australia to tour the big cattle stations.

- Joan divides her time between homes in Colorado and Florida.
