What did you think of KILLING RED?
I barreled through KILLING RED in one day! It was an easy read that held a suspenseful pace all the way through it. There were a few predictable moments, but not enough to keep one from turning the pages quickly while guessing about possible outcomes. I found the plot tight and well thought-out. The background was realistic with a plausible amount of detail --- enough to paint pictures without detracting from the heart of the mystery. Perez is obviously knowledgeable about the news industry and Chicago. Additionally, he had to have conducted a reasonable amount of research about the type of crimes committed in the book, as well as police/FBI procedure, in order to maintain such a believable level of authenticity.
Would you ever read a future book by Henry Perez?
Perez's writing is fast-paced and entertaining --- perfect for an otherwise long airplane ride or while lying on a beach. I can imagine picking up another one of his books at the airport or before a road trip (in paperback if I'm not driving, or audio if I am).
Gail from Hanover, PA
What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
David Baldacci, Harlan Coben, John Lescroart and Michael Connelly.
What did you think of KILLING RED?
KILLING RED is a fast-paced story that makes you want to keep reading to see what is going to happen next. Alex Chapa is a reporter with a lot of nerve trying to follow a big story.
Would you ever read a future book by Henry Perez?
I look forward to future books by Mr. Perez.
Linda from Lititz, PA

Jonathan Kellerman, Faye Kellerman, Michael Connelly, John Connolly, John Sandford and Nelson DeMille.
What did you think of KILLING RED?
It was a very interesting book. His characters were believable. His writing is very descriptive and I could almost feel myself there along with the characters as they carried along with the story.
Would you ever read a future book by Henry Perez?
Most definitely. I look forward to the next one.

What other suspense/thriller authors do you usually read?
I read a variety of authors and whether they are "suspense" writers is a matter of opinion. I like Lee Child, James Lee Burke, George Pelacanos and Michael Connelly quite well. I also just re-read THE THIRTY-NINE STEPS by John Buchan. It's not as graphic as the modern writers, but marvelously well written.
What did you think of KILLING RED?
On the whole, I didn't like KILLING RED. The only fully drawn character was Alex Chapa, the journalist protagonist. Every other character was flat and two dimensional to a greater or lesser degree. At 400 pages maybe he had to skimp on his character development, but it an uncompelling sort of narrative. I think he should stick to journalism.
Would you ever read a future book by Henry Perez?
I would not recommend this book and do not plan to read anything else he might publish. It was a generally unsatisfactory read.
