A PRAYER FOR THE DYING by Stewart O'Nan,4 stars
Well worth the effort --- a book that stays with you after one reads it. This is my first O'Nan book --- I look forward to his others.
MEMOIRS OF AN ANTI-SEMITE by Gregor Von Rezzori, 4 stars. This is a translated book first published in English in 1981. It is our book club selection for September. It is composed of five interrelated short stories where an Austrian gentile must confront his prejudices against Jews from early childhood to later life. A good summary of the roots of hatred and the role of nationalism at the societal level and low self-esteem or a sense of entitlement at the individual level in perpetuating ethnic atrocities and prejudices.
