KNOTS AND CROSSES
by Ian Rankin, 4 stars
Scottish detective John Rebus investigates a series of child murders and trips into his own past to uncover the killer. A great thriller.
GLASTONBURY by Donna Fletcher Crow, 4 stars
A tale of Chrisitianity in Britain, from the Celts to the reign of the Tudors.

Mrod622@aol.com
UNFORGETTABLE by Madeline Baker, 5 stars
A good read especially for someone who loves time travel romance. Madeline always tells a good story, hooks you and doesn't let go until the end.
SHATTERED by Dick Francis, 5 stars
I've read all his books from the first to the present and as always he hauls me into the main character's world, wraps in a good mystery and keeps you trying to figure it out to the end. He never fails to entertain me and always offers a good read.
WALTZ ON THE LAKE by Marilyn Rodriguez, 5 stars
I've just gotten into eBooks and enjoyed this murder mystery by a new author. I didn't figure out who did it until the last pages and enjoyed being carried along with the two detectives as they worked their way through the clues and cheered them on to the end. This is an eBook from Books OnScreen (at booksonscreen.com) and enjoyed all the bells and whistles they add to the book. I may be converted to eBooks yet!

EPaton@aol.com
TOPPING FROM BELOW by Laura Reese, 3 1/2 stars
I'm in the middle of it and it is a very intense novel with elements that might make some uncomfortable. Its' a murder mystery of sorts that centers on a sadomasochistic relationship. Not for the feint of heart. I would not recommend it for everyone but I had to try it.
RIDING THE BULLET by Stephen King, 5 stars
This book is classic King at his best. Perfect for this time of year. I give it 5 stars and I have only just started. I am a diehard Stephen King fan and this book is wonderful. The eBook format leaves something to be desired as you have to sit at the computer to read. You can't print it and take it anywhere with you. But Stephen King is worth it.

BEVBOOKS@aol.com
THE MEMOIRS OF CLEOPATRA by Margaret George, 5 stars
An autobiography told by Cleopatra herself. Historically accurate, and a wonderful read.
THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF HENRY VIII by Margaret George, 5 stars
This lady is a wonderful writer, and has done her homework as far as research. Everything else I have read about "Great Harry" more or less cast him as the bad guy. This one tells it from his viewpoint.
CRIMINAL CONVERSATION by Evan Hunter (aka Ed McBain), 4 stars
The first I've read by this author, but certainly not the last! What a surprise! What an ending! The head of the department investigating the mafia discovers that the Big Boss's latest mistress is his own dearly beloved wife.

DeeSwizzie@aol.com
WINTER SOLSTICE by Rosamunde Pilcher, 4 stars
I give it 4 stars because it kept me engrossed and feeling as though I had two lives, the book life and my true life. It was a pleasure to read this book with the British nuances and warm, lovable characters. I am left with very warm feelings about this book.

Whimsey03@aol.com
THE BLIND ASSASSIN by Margaret Atwood, 4 stars
This novel within a novel is good sheer storytelling. I enjoy her style of writing.
THE ANGELS OF SEPTEMBER by Andrew Greeley, 4 stars
The intriguing mix of the spiritual, psychological, and supernatural made this Fr. Blackie Ryan outing an excellent read.

HBloom2255@aol.com
THE SECRET BOOK OF GRAZIA DEI ROSSI by Jacqueline Park (no rank given)
A fascinating and well-researched book. I recommend this book to lovers of historical novels . It has a wonderful character in the heroine, as well as many real historical figures of the Renaissance.
THE LOST CONTINENT by Bill Bryson (no rank given)
Such insight!

Valjeang@aol.com
THE ALIENIST by Caleb Carr (no rank given)
I've been meaning to read this for several years and I recently took it along on vacation to read on the plane. I was surprised to learn that prior to the 20th century, experts who studied mental illness were called "alienists." I love the inclusion of real people into the fictional plot, such as Theodore Roosevelt. I'm only on page 200 (it's nearly 600 pages) but it's compelling and I'm feeling swept along and anxious to know who the killer is. I wonder if this will be made into a movie.

RKCKSYST@aol.com
LIGHT AT DUSK by Peter Gadol, 4 stars
NO NIGHT IS TOO LONG by Barbara Vine, 4 stars
A NEW SONG by Jan Karon, 5 stars

LalaEJ@aol.com
A WALK IN THE WOODS by Bill Bryson, 4 stars
I laughed out loud at the hilarity of the situations he gets into with his friend while attempting the Appalachian Trail. I didn't like how he picks on fat people. A fast read.
DEMOLITION ANGEL by Robert Crais, 4 stars
White-knuckle reading about a bomb squad technician. Good for reading when you want to feel your problems aren't so bad after all. I hope he brings back this character again.

LUCKEEJ@aol.com
HOUSE OF DREAMS by Brenda Joyce, 3 stars
This is a different type of romantic suspense. There is a ghost that plays a pivotal part in the whole story, spanning from the 1500s.

OuiNikita@aol.com
FRAGRANT PALM LEAVES by Thich Nhat Hanh, 5 stars
This gentle thoughtful book is the kind that you think about once you put it down and you might find yourself saying - aha - when the little gems of wisdom break through your everyday veneer.

MnBFletch@aol.com
MERRICK by Anne Rice, 4 stars
Anne Rice takes us back to New Orleans, then to the Mayan jungles, for a look at Merrick Mayfair: witch extraordinaire, Talamasca member, and the love of David Talbot (Lestats powerful vampire fledgling). Rice is back to the magic and emotions that made us love her from the start. Highly recommended.

THE BIG THAW by Donald Harstad, 3 1/2 stars
It's pretty good, just a tad slow.
THE SKY IS FALLING by Sidney Sheldon, 4 stars
It's good to see a book from him again, but this isn't one of his best (quick read though!)
THE MARRIAGE PRIZE by Virginia Henley, 5 stars
I like her work, she has humor mixed in with romance and plot, rare quality. Good book.
MISTER PERFECT by Linda Howard, 3 stars
It wasn't bad, but I think the small excerpt I had read made it sound much, much better.
I also have THE BLIND ASSASSIN by Margaret Atwood, THE SWITCH by Sandra Brown, and SUPERSTAR by Victoria Gotti, but am trying to finish THE BIG THAW before them.

Booksagain@aol.com
PRAIRY ERTH by William Least Heat-Moon, 5 stars
Heat-Moon is one of the best. We should all see things the way he does. The world would be better place to live in.

Carol@bookreporter.com
THE POISONWOOD BIBLE by Barbara Kingsolver, 4 stars
Poisonwood is one of the books that I "missed" when it first came out and it was on my "makeup list" for a while. I can see why reading groups LOVE this choice. There is tons to discuss from plot to language to interpretation to....well the list goes on and on. My notes: while Kingsolver's use of imagery and words is at first treasured, as the book moves on it takes its toll. I found myself re-reading pages as she "lost me," which is something that has not happened to me with an author in a long time. I also think the last 100-150 pages could have been drastically edited. But those two criticisms aside, I see the Congo as I never had before and her characters were well fleshed out, even when they were not endearing or lovable.

JBTHENURSE@aol.com
"A" IS FOR ALIBI by Sue Grafton (no rank given)
Not only are the mysteries she presents intriguing, the characters and observations she writes about truly hit the mark. You know the people in her books, they are your work mates, neighbors, etc. This incredible series is up to the letter "O". Try them and I think you'll get hooked too.

Afnak@aol.com
THREE TO GET DEADLY by Janet Evanovich, 3 stars
Much better than her other books.
LEFT FOR DEAD: My Journey Home From Everest by Beck Weathers, 5 stars
For anyone who read and enjoyed Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer, this is great.
THINNER by Stephen King, 2 1/2 stars
Started out very well, gradually got worse.
BITTER HARVEST by Ann Rule, 5 stars
This is Ann Rule at her best. Of the 5 books by her that I've read, this is the best (in my opinion).
