HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD
by Michael Cunningham, 5 stars
THE MARRIED MAN by Edmund White
Not ready for an evaluation although I have read some raves by others.

MIKAELAM@prodigy.net
THE PILOT'S WIFE by Anita Shreve, 4 stars
WHERE THE HEART IS by Billie Letts, 5 stars
Readers will fall in love with Novalee Nation and her baby Americus.

Valjeang@aol.com
THE BIRCHBARK HOUSE by Louise Erdrich, 4 stars.
It's historical fiction and it's actually a children's book, but can be seriously enjoyed by adults who enjoy very well-researched accounts of Native American families hundreds of years ago. A delightful read.

TITAN: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. by Ron Chernow, 4 stars
An accurate account of one of the most powerful men in US history. States. You learn of his travails, rocky family relationships and unusual money habits . It was an enjoyable historical book as NICHOLAS AND ALEXANDRA.
TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE by Mitch Albom, 4 stars
A tear jerker for all people who appreciate a beautiful relationship between a teacher and his pupil. The progression of Morrie's disease is told in stages and is greatly felt until the bitter end. The brevity of the story is refreshing because you want to finish it in one day.
I am currently reading MORGAN: AMERICAN FINANCIER and am anticipating to read GREEK FIRE.

Guide to Literary Agents, 2000 by Donya Dickerson, 5 stars
Anything and everything you need to know about agents, query letters and the dreaded do's and don'ts!

Bailey1313@aol.com
THE LAST PRECINCT by Patricia Cornwell, 5 stars
Great book.
THE POISONWOOD BIBLE by Barbara Kingsolver, 4 stars
I liked the book but it got slow in the middle.
WHITE OLEANDER by Janet Fitch, 5 stars
Great book --- I was hooked from beginning to end.

THE CHARM SCHOOL by Nelson DeMille, 5 stars
I usually don't read this type of book, but it was excellent. Full of intrigue and I couldn't put it down. It is not a new book of this author's, but was recommended by a friend. It's about a "spy school" in Russia.
TARA ROAD by Maeve Binchy, 5 stars
Another good one by Maeve Binchy. I always enjoy her characters and descriptions of Ireland.
OUT TO CANAAN by Jan Karon, 5 stars
(The Mitford Series) I recently finished the last in this series and loved it. Her characters are such that they could be your neighbors. Beautifully written, charming, and you feel like a resident of Mitford! I always hate to see the story end.

PARABLE OF THE SOWER by Octavia E. Butler, 3 stars
Lauren is a hyperempathic young woman living in the violent, brutal world of Southern California in 2025. While this is an excellent premise for a book, I was disappointed with the finished product. The dialogue was choppy, the characters underdeveloped, and the story filled with pages of killings, dismemberments, and brutality. While this story serves as groundwork for future books about Lauren's Earthseed community founded to create a better world from the chaos of her time, it does not stand well as a book alone. Perhaps later books in the series are better.
DUNE by Frank Herbert, 5 stars
Still remains for me the best ever in science fiction. A story worth reading over and over again and experienced anew by each generation of readers.

THE JOB by Douglas Kennedy, 5 stars
This is one book you have got to read ! I flew through this book in record time, all 466 pages beg to be turned in rapid succession.

TOP TEN by Ryne Douglas Pearson, 2 stars
I'm not a fan of serial murder mysteries, but I was asked to read TOP TEN by Ryne Douglas Pearson and evaluate it. There is a serial murderer on the loose by the name of Michaelangelo (he believes each of his murders is a work of art and he sends the descriptions of his 'work' to the Met). FBI agent Ariel Grace is assigned to the Task Force looking for him. Sound familiar? I thought so too, but there the familiarity ends. TOP TEN isn't in the same league of RED DRAGON or SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. There is an interesting twist though. Michaelangelo is killing the members of the FBI's Most Wanted List because he is angry that he isn't number one. I understand the movie rights to TOP TEN have been sold to Warner Brothers and I suggest, unless you are a big fan of serial murders and just have to read each book that comes out, that you wait until the TOP TEN movie is released and see what kind of reviews it receives. TOP TEN is well-titled, but I would only rate the book 2 stars (and that may be kind).

ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY by David Sedaris, 5 stars
This is a collection of funny anecdotes about the author's life. He has a great sense of humor, and I like this book better than NAKED, which is the first book of his that I read.

THE HAUNT by J.N. Williamson, 3 stars
The plot is interesting and scary (my favorite type of book) BUT this author's writing style leaves something to be desired. The sentences are run on as if the author is trying to express each and every thought in one sentence. It's as if parenthetical thoughts are in the sentences without the parentheses making the flow of the story difficult. It is frequently necessary to reread the sentences to make sense of what is being said. I have never encountered a writing style like this. If not for this odd writing style, this book would deserve 4 1/2 stars. As it is only three will do.

THE DOOR INTO SUMMER by Robert Heinlein, 5 stars
wonderful reading this 1950's glimpse into the future....gasp, gasp.....2000 ! Heinlein is amazingly clairvoyant about some inventions and wildly off base about others. I started reading it because it starts out talking about the narrator's cat. Couldn't put it down. Strongly recommend.
THE DREAM OF THE MARSH WREN by Pattiann Rogers, 5 stars
About writing poetry. Her poem about rolling, naked, in the morning dew is a killer.
DAUGHTER OF FORTUNE by Isabelle Allende, 1 star
Could this be the first in a trilogy? Too many subplots left hanging for it not to be. Seems to be lacking her usual spice and verve.
HANNA'S DAUGHTERS by Marianne Fredriksson, 4 stars
Interesting saga about three Scandinavian women. Got me to thinking about how we all see our history through our own perspective and needs.
THE LADIES AUXILIARY by Tova Mirvis, 4 stars
Jewish life in Memphis.....yes, it really exists in the protestant bible belt. Very interesting reading about orthodox Jewish practices.
MORNING SUN ON A WHITE PIANO by Robin Meyers, 5 stars
If you only read one book about how to live a more fulfilling life, read this one. Meyers is a Congregational minister in Oklahoma City and writes a very sensitive book about the 12 things you can do to make your life more rewarding. You'll be surprised......not a conservative evangelist's take on living the good life. Thank Goodness!!
